Vietnam is not the cheapest dental tourism country and not the loudest. It is the best balanced. We compared every dental tourism market across 47 factors. Here is why Vietnam wins on the things patients actually care about.
Clinical infrastructure built over four decades
Vietnam's dental sector has been rebuilding and modernising since the early 1990s, accelerating sharply through the 2010s. Top clinics in all five SmileJet cities use the same German and Korean implant brands as Sydney, London, and Los Angeles specialists. The Moraschini 2015 systematic review (IJOMS Vol 44(3) pp.377-388) reports a pooled five-year implant survival rate of approximately 94.6%. Our verified Vietnamese partners meet this benchmark.

Dental school pedigree, country-wide
The National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Hanoi has trained Vietnamese dentists since 1960. Its alumni run senior practices in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Phu Quoc. A SmileJet patient in Phu Quoc can be treated by a graduate of the same training tradition as one in Hanoi. The pedigree is national, not city-specific.

The same implant brands as Sydney
Top Vietnamese clinics stock Straumann (Switzerland), Nobel Biocare (Sweden), Osstem (Korea), and Dentium (Korea). The implant in your jaw is identical to the implant a Sydney specialist would place. The difference is overhead. Lower rents, lower salaries, and lower equipment lease costs in Vietnamese cities translate to substantially lower treatment prices. The Kupka 2024 review (Clin Oral Investig 28(10) p.541) confirms outcome equivalence across these branded systems regardless of placement geography.

Auckland, Los Angeles, London, and Toronto patients connect once via Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, or Doha. Phu Quoc has direct seasonal flights from Bangkok and Singapore. Pick your recovery climate
Most dental tourism countries offer one climate. Vietnam offers four. Hanoi recovery happens in cool dry winters or temperate spring around Hoan Kiem Lake. Ho Chi Minh City sits in the southern tropical belt year-round. Da Nang and Hoi An give you central beach climate. Phu Quoc delivers full island tropical with white-sand recovery. Choose your treatment city based on the climate that suits your healing.

Verification
How we verify every Vietnamese clinic, in every SmileJet city
The same inspection runs in each city, executed by a country-wide verification team. Most clinics that apply do not pass.
01
On-site inspection in every city
Our verification team visits every SmileJet partner clinic across Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, and Phu Quoc. We inspect sterilisation rooms, treatment rooms, equipment, and patient records. Clinics that refuse inspection in any of the five cities are not on SmileJet.
02
Credential verification
Every dentist is checked against the Vietnam Ministry of Health practitioner registry. Specialist claims (implantology, prosthodontics, orthodontics) are verified against post-graduate credentials, with priority given to graduates of the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology training tradition. We require minimum five years of relevant practice.
03
Sterilisation audit
We audit each clinic's autoclave logs, instrument tracking, and waste disposal protocols. SmileJet partner clinics in all five cities meet EU CE-marked sterilisation standards. We re-check this annually, country-wide.
04
Patient outcome tracking
We track every SmileJet-referred patient outcome for 12 months post-treatment, regardless of city. Clinics with complication rates above the published five-year implant survival benchmark of approximately 94.6% (Moraschini et al. 2015 systematic review, IJOMS Vol 44(3) pp.377-388) are removed from our network.

Validity
90 days, single-entry, mainland-wide (covers Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang, Hoi An, plus all overland)
Apply at least two weeks before travel to allow buffer time. Validity starts on your declared entry date, not your application date.
Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese Special Economic Zone. Every nationality flying direct receives 30 days visa-free entry on landing. No e-visa form, no US$25 fee, no wait. Australians, Americans, Britons, New Zealanders, Canadians โ every nationality walks through immigration with passport in hand. The mainland still requires an e-visa.
30 days
visa-free, all passports, Phu Quoc direct
If you fly into Phu Quoc and want to extend onto the mainland (e.g. for a follow-up trip in HCMC), you still need the mainland e-visa. Most patients pick one or the other.
Recovery climate
Vietnam offers four climate zones, choose by recovery preference
Most dental tourism countries deliver one climate. Vietnam stretches 1,650km north to south and includes a tropical island, giving you genuinely different recovery options. Pick the climate that suits your healing style.
Cool-winter north
Hanoi
Hanoi has four distinct seasons. Winter (December to February) is dry and cool, 14 to 22 degrees, perfect for patients who dislike heat post-surgery. Spring (March to April) is mild. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid. Autumn (September to November) is the favourite recovery season: dry, mild, and crisp.

Central Vietnam runs warm year-round with a pronounced rainy season. March to August is dry, sunny, 25 to 32 degrees, ideal for beach recovery. September to November is rainy with occasional typhoons. December to February is cooler and dry, around 20 to 26 degrees.

Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City sits in the southern tropical belt. Two seasons only: dry (December to April, 26 to 34 degrees) and wet (May to November, with afternoon thunderstorms). Indoor air-conditioned recovery is the norm. Less weather risk, more consistent year-round.
Phu Quoc has classic tropical island climate. November to April is dry, sunny, 26 to 31 degrees, picture-perfect for white-sand recovery. May to October has higher rainfall with cooling tropical showers. Sea temperature rarely drops below 27 degrees year-round.
