Hanoi is best October to April — cool and dry, 14–22°C, minimal humidity, ideal for post-surgical recovery. Ho Chi Minh City is year-round accessible, with December to April (dry season) offering the most comfortable conditions. Da Nang and Hoi An are best March to August and again December to February; September to November is typhoon season and carries flooding risk for Hoi An. Phu Quoc is best November to April during its dry tropical season. All five cities observe Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) clinic closures of 1–2 weeks in late January or early February — avoid booking treatment in this window regardless of city. Critical: Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year)

Most Vietnamese partner clinics close for one to two weeks during Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year). The dates vary year-to-year because Tet follows the lunar calendar.

Avoid booking treatment trips in the two weeks either side of Tet. Flights and hotels also spike in price during this window.

Climate detail by city

Hanoi

Northern Vietnam has four distinct seasons. Winter (December-February) is dry and cool, 14-22 degrees Celsius — coldest of any SmileJet city. Spring (March-April) is mild. Summer (June-August) is hot humid, 28-35 degrees, often above 80% humidity. Autumn (September-November) is the favourite season: dry, mild, 20-28 degrees, low humidity. For heat-sensitive patients, October-April is the comfortable window. Hanoi summers should be approached only by patients tolerant of tropical heat.

Ho Chi Minh City

Southern tropical year-round. Two seasons only. Dry season runs December-April, 26-34 degrees, sunny most days. Wet season runs May-November with daily afternoon thunderstorms (typically 1-2 hours, then clear). Indoor air-conditioned recovery is the norm year-round. The wet season is genuinely fine for dental tourism — afternoon rain is short and predictable, mornings are clear. December-April peak season has higher hotel and flight costs.

Da Nang

Central coast warm. Three windows. Dry sunny: March-August, 25-32 degrees, ideal for beach recovery. Typhoon season: September-November, occasional disruptions, fewer tourists, lower prices. Cool dry: December-February, 20-26 degrees, excellent for patients sensitive to heat. The September-November window is acceptable for treatment trips with no beach component planned; for beach recovery, March-August is the high-confidence choice.

Hoi An

Same general climate as Da Nang (30 minutes apart) but with one important caveat. Heavy rain years can flood the Ancient Town in October-November, sometimes for 2-3 days. The dental clinics are not in the flood-affected riverside zone; the disruption is to walking access and tourism activities. Plan around October-November if Hoi An flooding sensitivity matters; otherwise the windows match Da Nang.

Phu Quoc

Tropical island with two distinct seasons. Dry season runs November-April, 26-31 degrees, picture-perfect for white-sand recovery. Wet season runs May-October with higher rainfall and rougher seas. The wet season is not unsuitable for treatment — it is just less ideal for resort recovery. Sea temperature rarely drops below 27 degrees year-round. November-April is the high-confidence treatment-trip window.
