Vietnam visa, made simple

One e-visa for the entire mainland. One application. No embassy appointment. Plus the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone exception that lets every nationality skip the visa entirely if Phu Quoc is the entry point.

Vietnam dental tourism patients need one of two visa paths depending on their entry city. For Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hoi An: apply for the 90-day single-entry mainland e-visa online at the official Vietnamese government portal. The fee is US$25, processing takes 3โ€“5 business days, and no embassy appointment is required. Australian, New Zealand, American, British, Canadian, and 70+ other nationalities are all eligible. Apply at least two weeks before travel to allow buffer. For Phu Quoc with direct entry: every nationality receives 30 days visa-free on landing at Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) โ€” no form, no fee, no wait. The Phu Quoc visa-free entry only applies if Phu Quoc is your entry point; passengers arriving via Ho Chi Minh City first require the mainland e-visa. For multi-trip implant patients doing placement in one trip and crown fitting 3 months later, two separate single-entry e-visas at US$25 each is the standard approach.

90-day mainland e-visa

Eligible for Australian, New Zealand, American, British, Canadian passport holders, plus 70+ other nationalities. Single-entry, mainland-wide.

  1. 1
Apply online at the official Vietnamese government e-visa portal
Use the official portal at evisa.gov.vn or evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. Avoid third-party agent sites that charge a markup for the same form.
  2. 2
Upload passport scan and digital photo
Passport bio page (clear, legible, all four corners visible) and a recent passport-style photo on a white background. JPEG, under 2MB.
  3. 3
    Pay US$25 by card
Visa, Mastercard, JCB accepted. Fee is non-refundable even if the application is rejected, so double-check passport details before submitting.
  4. 4
Receive e-visa PDF, typically 3 to 5 business days
Processing time is published as 3 working days but commonly takes 3 to 5 business days, occasionally longer at peak times. Apply at least two weeks before travel to allow buffer.

Print two copies. Hand one to the immigration officer with your passport. Keep the second as backup. The validity period starts on your declared entry date, not your application date.

30 days, visa-free, every passport

Phu Quoc is a Vietnamese Special Economic Zone. Every nationality flying direct to Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) receives 30 days visa-free entry on landing. No e-visa form, no US$25 fee, no application wait.

The catch: this only applies if Phu Quoc is your entry point. Flights via Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) or Hanoi (HAN) require the mainland e-visa.

If you fly into Phu Quoc and want to extend onto the mainland (for example, a follow-up trip in HCMC or Hanoi), you still need the mainland e-visa. Most patients pick one entry mode or the other.

Common e-visa questions

Can my partner come along on the same e-visa application?
No. Each traveller submits their own application. The form does not support multiple-applicant family submissions; budget US$25 per traveller.
What if my e-visa is rejected?
Rejections are uncommon for tourism applicants from Australia, New Zealand, the US, the UK, and Canada. The most frequent cause is photo or passport-scan quality issues. The US$25 fee is non-refundable โ€” re-apply with corrected uploads. Allow extra buffer time before travel.
Can I extend the e-visa once I arrive?
Limited extensions are possible at Vietnamese immigration offices, but the process is bureaucratic and is not guaranteed. For multi-trip implant patients, plan around the 90-day single-entry validity rather than relying on extensions.
What about a multiple-entry visa?
Multiple-entry options exist but are not part of the standard e-visa. They typically require an in-person application via a Vietnamese embassy or consulate and cost more. For most dental tourism patients, two single-entry e-visas across two trips is simpler and cheaper.
Do I need proof of return travel or accommodation?
Vietnamese immigration officers occasionally ask for return ticket and hotel confirmation on arrival. SmileJet provides a treatment confirmation letter on request that you can show alongside.
When does the 90 days start counting?
From your declared entry date, not your application date. If you enter on day 1, your e-visa expires on day 90. Single-entry means once you leave Vietnam, the e-visa is consumed even if days remain.
