Ancient Town (Phố Cổ)

Quiet beach, good cafés, lower costAn Bang is a relaxed beach 4km east of the Ancient Town — less developed than Da Nang's My Khe but quieter and more local. Casuarina tree shade, good surf in season, and a tight-knit strip of beach cafés. Scooter or short Grab to the Ancient Town (5 min). Accommodation here is almost all guesthouses and small beach hotels — very affordable.
Cua Dai Beach / resort zone
Resort facilities, quieter paceThe resort belt 3km east of the Ancient Town — larger international hotel properties with pool, spa, and beachfront facilities. A step up in infrastructure from An Bang, with more consistent service levels. Some properties have eroded beach due to storm damage; check recent photos before booking.

Which zone gives the fastest Grab access to Da Nang clinics?
All three zones (Ancient Town, An Bang Beach, and Cua Dai) are within 30–40 minutes of Da Nang partner clinics. The Ancient Town is marginally fastest for most clinic routes. However, because SmileJet schedules appointments from 9am onwards, traffic is lighter and the difference between zones is 5–10 minutes at most.
Is it better to book an Ancient Town guesthouse or a resort?
It depends on what you want from recovery days. Ancient Town guesthouses give you immediate access to the café culture, lantern streets, and river environment. Resort hotels (Cua Dai, An Bang) give you pool, spa, and beachfront facilities. Both are equally accessible to Da Nang clinics. Most dental patients who report the highest recovery satisfaction chose the Ancient Town.
When is accommodation most expensive in Hoi An?
November to February is high season — particularly December and January, when temperatures are cooler and the Ancient Town Lantern Festival draws international visitors. Tết (late January or early February) sees many locals travelling and prices spike. April to June and September to October are generally the best-value periods, with dry weather and fewer crowds.
Should I book a serviced apartment or a hotel?
Hotel rooms are the standard choice for most 7–10 day dental trips. Serviced apartments in Hoi An are limited — the town is primarily guesthouses and boutique hotels. For stays longer than 10 days (e.g., All-on-4 Stage 1 with extended recovery), a room with kitchen access or proximity to markets and soft-food restaurants is worth prioritising.

Pick up Grab on the edge of the car-free zone
Ancient Town's core is pedestrianised — Grab cars cannot enter. Most hotel staff will walk you to the nearest pickup point, typically 2–5 minutes from your room. Save the clinic address in Vietnamese in your Grab app before the trip: your SmileJet brief includes this.
Ask for a ground floor or lift-access room
Post-surgery (implants or wisdom teeth), carrying luggage up stairs is uncomfortable. When booking, note that you may be recovering from minor surgery and request ground floor or lift access. Most Hoi An boutique hotels are 2–4 stories with no lift — worth confirming ahead.
Book near the Hoai River for recovery walks
The riverside promenade along the Hoai River is flat, scenic, and car-free — ideal for gentle post-procedure walks. What to look for in Hoi An dental accommodation
Proximity to Grab pickup point
Ancient Town's core is car-free. You need to walk 2-5 minutes to a Grab pickup zone for clinic days. Most hotels will guide you to the correct pickup point. Confirm this when booking — properties on the outer edge of the car-free zone are more convenient for early morning departures.
Ground floor or lift access
Post-surgery, carrying luggage up stairs is uncomfortable. Many Hoi An boutique hotels are 2-4 stories with no lift. If you are having implant surgery or wisdom tooth removal, request ground floor or lift-accessible accommodation when booking. Note this in the booking comment.
Proximity to Hoai River
The riverside promenade along the Hoai River is flat, scenic, and car-free — ideal for gentle post-procedure walks. Accommodation within 5 minutes walk of the river provides easy access to the soft-food café strip and the most photogenic part of Hoi An. Most recovery walking from SmileJet trips happens here.
On-site breakfast or café nearby
For the first 1-2 days after any procedure, easy access to soft food is important. Properties with on-site breakfast (including porridge and soft options) are preferable. Alternatively, confirm that soft-food cafés (congee stalls, smoothie bars) are within 5 minutes walk from your guesthouse.
Reliable WiFi
You need reliable WiFi to run the Grab app (backup to your Vietnamese SIM), communicate with SmileJet, and coordinate clinic appointments. Most Ancient Town boutique hotels have adequate WiFi. Check recent guest reviews specifically mentioning connectivity if you are relying on WiFi for critical communications.
Air conditioning in room
Recovery from dental procedures is easier in a cool, comfortable room. Hoi An is hot and humid from April to August. A room with functional air conditioning is non-negotiable for dental recovery — particularly for implant or surgical cases where swelling management benefits from cool environments.
Getting between your Hoi An accommodation and the Da Nang clinic
Ancient Town: walk to Grab zone
If you stay in the Ancient Town core, Grab cars cannot enter the pedestrianised zone. You walk 2-5 minutes to the nearest Grab pickup point (your hotel will show you on a map). From there, the Grab to the Da Nang clinic takes 25-35 minutes. Book Grab 10-15 minutes before you need to leave, not 5 minutes.
An Bang Beach: Grab direct
From An Bang Beach, Grab can pick up at your guesthouse directly. The journey to the Da Nang clinic is 35-40 minutes. Marginally longer than from the Ancient Town, but the direct pickup from your door is more convenient on early morning appointment days.
Cua Dai: hotel can assist
Resort hotels in the Cua Dai zone typically have a concierge who can call Grab or arrange a hotel car. Confirm with your hotel whether they have preferred clinic transport. Journey time: 30-40 minutes. Some larger resorts have their own transfer vehicles for guests.
After sedation: plan ahead
If your procedure involves IV sedation (All-on-4 surgery, complex wisdom teeth), you cannot travel alone. Arrange for a travel companion, or confirm with SmileJet that the Da Nang clinic's own return transfer is available for your surgery day. Do not plan to Grab alone after sedation.
Timing clinic day departures
SmileJet schedules appointments from 9am. Leave your Hoi An accommodation by 8:15am for a comfortable buffer. From the Ancient Town, you are at the clinic by 8:50-9:05am. Grab availability in the Hoi An-Da Nang corridor is reliable from 7:30am onwards.
Return journey after treatment
After most appointments (consultation, veneer preparation, crown fitting), you are back in Hoi An by early afternoon. Surgery days may run longer — 12-2pm return is typical for implant cases. The clinic will confirm timing. Have a soft-food plan ready for the return — Ancient Town congee or pho is the standard recommendation.
