The 30-second verdict

This is not a clinical decision: both cities use the same Da Nang partner-clinic network at the same prices. It is a recovery decision. Choose Da Nang for a compact trip where the airport, clinic and My Khe Beach are close together. Choose Hoi An for the slowest, calmest recovery in Vietnam in a lantern-lit Ancient Town, accepting a 30-minute transfer to the clinic. Many patients split the trip: treat in Da Nang, recover in Hoi An.

Climate and pricing are identical. Clinical quality is identical, because the clinics are the same. The decision reduces to pace and the recovery backdrop you want.

Who each city suits

Which one fits your trip

Choose Da Nang if

You want a compact, low-friction trip where the airport, clinic and beach are minutes apart, gentle beach-walk recovery on flat My Khe Beach, modern coastal-city amenities, and the easiest logistics for a first Vietnam dental trip with no extra transfer.

Choose Hoi An if

You want the slowest, calmest recovery in Vietnam, the UNESCO-listed Ancient Town as your backdrop, low-stimulation downtime (lantern-lit evenings, flat river cycling, An Bang Beach), and you do not mind a 30-minute transfer to the Da Nang clinic for appointments.

Treatment pricing

What you pay in each city

Because both cities use the same Da Nang clinic network, treatment prices are effectively identical. AUD at 1 USD = 1.53 AUD. The only real cost variable is accommodation.

TreatmentDa Nang (USD)Da Nang (AUD)Hoi An (USD)Hoi An (AUD)
Implant (Osstem + crown) $850 A$1,301 $880 A$1,346
Implant (Straumann + crown) $1,500 A$2,295 $1,550 A$2,372
All-on-4 per arch (Osstem) $6,500 A$9,945 $6,800 A$10,404
All-on-4 per arch (Straumann) $6,900 A$10,557 $7,000 A$10,710
E.max veneer (per tooth) $280 A$428 $300 A$459
Zirconia crown $280 A$428 $300 A$459
Root canal + crown (molar) $520 A$796 $530 A$811
Full-mouth rehabilitation From $17,500 From A$26,775 From $18,000 From A$27,540
Small differences reflect typical accommodation and convenience variation, not different clinics. A single implant case still pays for the trip on savings versus home-country prices of US$3,000 to US$6,000.
The honest decision

Climate and price are a wash. Pace decides it.

Da Nang and Hoi An are 30 minutes apart, so the climate is identical and the clinics are the same. That removes most of the variables that usually drive a city choice and leaves one real question: how slow do you want your recovery to be?

Da Nang is a modern Vietnamese city with international hotels, a strong food scene and beach access. The pace is mid-tempo, quieter than HCMC, busier than Hoi An. My Khe Beach is genuinely a few minutes' walk from many hotel and clinic locations, so gentle post-surgical strolls are easy. Patients who want to balance treatment with daily activity prefer Da Nang.

Hoi An is intentionally slow. The Ancient Town is preserved 15th to 19th century merchant architecture, largely pedestrianised and lantern-lit at dusk, with the slowest pace of any SmileJet city. Patients who want low-stimulation recovery, particularly post-surgical patients who do not want urban energy intruding, prefer Hoi An. The only friction is the 30-minute transfer from the Da Nang clinic, typically a hotel-arranged car.

The combined play. Because the cities are so close, many patients split the stay: surgical and preparation days in Da Nang near the clinic, then lab-fabrication days in Hoi An's calmer Ancient Town. For first-time central-Vietnam patients this is often the right answer, capturing both the convenience of Da Nang and the calm of Hoi An.

By treatment

Da Nang vs Hoi An, the practical detail

Shared airport and clinics

Both cities use Da Nang International (DAD). Hoi An is a 30-minute car from the airport and from the clinic; Da Nang clinics and hotels are 10 to 20 minutes from DAD. The flight in is the same regardless of which city you treat in, so the decision is made after you land, not before.

Which procedures suit Hoi An

Veneer sets, composite bonding, single crowns, whitening and standard All-on-4 planning all suit Hoi An's pace and the Da Nang clinic proximity. Complex multi-stage cases needing appointments on consecutive days are slightly more cumbersome from Hoi An (the 30-minute transfer each way), so they sit more naturally in Da Nang accommodation.

Accommodation

Da Nang hotels run roughly A$40 to A$120 per night at mid-range to international-chain level. Hoi An's Ancient Town boutique hotels run A$45 to A$140, with some exceptionally atmospheric riverside and converted-merchant-house properties. For the most distinctive accommodation in the network, Hoi An wins.

Splitting the stay

A common pattern: Da Nang for surgical and preparation days (closer to the clinic), Hoi An for the appointment-free lab-fabrication days. The car between cities is about US$8 to US$22 and takes 30 to 40 minutes. Your coordinator arranges the transport and sequencing.

What to do between appointments

Da Nang. My Khe Beach morning strolls (flat, 5 km, low-impact, good from day two), the Marble Mountains (cable car available to limit exertion), Ba Na Hills, the Hai Van Pass, and Han River seafood once soft-chewing resumes. A Hoi An day trip from day four onwards.

Hoi An. Ancient Town evening walks along the river (lantern-lit, low traffic, naturally calming), flat river cycling from day three or four, An Bang Beach 4 km out, custom tailors during downtime, and cooking classes or boat trips once cleared for normal activity.

Frequently asked

Da Nang vs Hoi An, answered

Do Da Nang and Hoi An use the same clinics?
Yes. Hoi An patients are treated at the same Da Nang partner-clinic network, a 30-minute car transfer from the Ancient Town. There is no separate Hoi An clinic network. Da Nang patients use those clinics without the transfer. From a clinical standpoint both groups see the same verified clinics: the difference is purely where you stay and recover.
Is there a price difference between Da Nang and Hoi An?
Treatment prices are identical because both use the same Da Nang clinic network. The only cost variable is accommodation: Hoi An's atmospheric Ancient Town boutique hotels often run slightly higher than comparable Da Nang beach hotels. The dental cost itself does not change with where you base yourself.
Which city is better for a first dental trip to Vietnam?
Da Nang is generally easier for first-timers: the airport, the clinic and the beach are close together, with no extra transfer. Hoi An adds a charming cultural layer but requires the 30-minute transfer to the Da Nang clinic. For a first visit, Da Nang removes friction; once you have done a Vietnam dental trip, the Hoi An arrangement feels seamless.
Can I split my stay between Da Nang and Hoi An?
Yes, and it is a popular pattern. A typical split: stay in Da Nang for the surgical and preparation days (closer to the clinic), then move to Hoi An for the lab-fabrication days when no clinic visits are needed. The car between cities costs about US$8 to US$22 and takes 30 to 40 minutes. Your SmileJet coordinator can sequence the itinerary.
