The honest pace decision
Climate is identical (the cities are 30 minutes apart). Pricing is roughly identical (Hoi An runs marginally higher because the smaller clinic network has less competitive pricing pressure). Clinical quality is comparable at top-tier partner clinics in both cities. The decision reduces to pace and tourism backdrop preference.
Da Nang is a modern Vietnamese city with international hotels, food scene, and beach access. The pace is mid-tempo — quieter than HCMC, busier than Hoi An. My Khe Beach is genuinely a few minutes' walk from many hotel and clinic locations. Patients who want to balance treatment with daily activity prefer Da Nang.
Hoi An is intentionally slow. The Ancient Town is preserved 15th-19th century merchant architecture, mostly pedestrianised, lantern-lit at dusk. The pace is genuinely the slowest of any SmileJet city. Patients who want low-stimulation recovery — particularly post-surgical patients who do not want urban energy intruding — prefer Hoi An. Couples often pair the trip with cooking classes, lantern festivals, or quiet river time.
The 30-minute transfer from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An is the only real friction. Patients arriving in Da Nang typically take a hotel-arranged car (US$15-22, 30 minutes). Some patients fly into Da Nang, do treatment in Da Nang or Hoi An, and stay in the other for some of the recovery — the proximity makes this practical.
