City pair comparison

Da Nang vs Hoi An

Both cities sit on the central Vietnamese coast and share the same airport (Da Nang International). The decision is not about access โ€” it is about pace. Da Nang is a modern coastal city; Hoi An is the slowest-pace SmileJet city.

Choose Da Nang if

You want beach-walk-distance recovery from a modern coastal city, mid-pace urban energy with daily food and tourism options, and direct seasonal flights from Sydney for streamlined access.

Choose Hoi An if

You want the slowest pace of any SmileJet city, UNESCO-listed Ancient Town as your recovery backdrop, low-stimulation cultural recovery (lantern-lit evenings, river cycling), and you do not mind the 30-minute transfer from Da Nang Airport.

The honest pace decision

Climate is identical (the cities are 30 minutes apart). Pricing is roughly identical (Hoi An runs marginally higher because the smaller clinic network has less competitive pricing pressure). Clinical quality is comparable at top-tier partner clinics in both cities. The decision reduces to pace and tourism backdrop preference.

Da Nang is a modern Vietnamese city with international hotels, food scene, and beach access. The pace is mid-tempo โ€” quieter than HCMC, busier than Hoi An. My Khe Beach is genuinely a few minutes' walk from many hotel and clinic locations. Patients who want to balance treatment with daily activity prefer Da Nang.

Hoi An is intentionally slow. The Ancient Town is preserved 15th-19th century merchant architecture, mostly pedestrianised, lantern-lit at dusk. The pace is genuinely the slowest of any SmileJet city. Patients who want low-stimulation recovery โ€” particularly post-surgical patients who do not want urban energy intruding โ€” prefer Hoi An. Couples often pair the trip with cooking classes, lantern festivals, or quiet river time.

The 30-minute transfer from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An is the only real friction. Patients arriving in Da Nang typically take a hotel-arranged car (US$15-22, 30 minutes). Some patients fly into Da Nang, do treatment in Da Nang or Hoi An, and stay in the other for some of the recovery โ€” the proximity makes this practical.

Many patients pick both

It is common to split the trip โ€” treatment in one city, recovery in the other. A standard pattern: implants placed in Da Nang (clinic with broader network, more scheduling slack), then recovery in Hoi An (slower pace, better for the post-surgical days). This is operationally easy because of the proximity and is often the right answer for first-time central-Vietnam patients.
