All-on-4 from Hoi An — what the trip looks like
Pre-trip planning and CBCT
All-on-4 requires CBCT bone density mapping before surgical planning begins. SmileJet coordinates pre-trip X-ray records from your home dentist and arranges the CBCT at the Da Nang clinic on Day 1 of your trip. Digital treatment plan prepared before surgery is agreed.
Surgery day — Da Nang clinic
All-on-4 surgery takes 3–5 hours per arch. You're at the Da Nang clinic for most of the day. Immediate load temporaries (teeth on the same day, if bone stability allows) are fitted before you leave. A Grab back to Hoi An (30 min, A$6) with someone accompanying you.
Ancient Town recovery
Post-surgery days are soft diet and reduced activity. Hoi An is excellent for this — soups, congee, and soft Vietnamese food are everywhere. Day 3–4, most patients are comfortable enough to walk the Ancient Town, sit by the river, and visit Hoi An's cafes. Recovery days aren't wasted.
Return trip for finals
Final zirconia prosthetics require a return trip 3–6 months after implant placement — once osseointegration is confirmed. The return Hoi An trip for finals is shorter: CBCT review, abutment confirmation, final fitting. Many patients combine this with a second central Vietnam stay.
Osstem vs Straumann — All-on-4 implant brands at the Da Nang clinic
Osstem / Dentium — South Korean
From A$9,945 per arch. South Korea's leading implant manufacturers with strong long-term clinical data. Widely used across Southeast Asia. The Da Nang partner clinic uses Osstem as its primary All-on-4 implant. Moraschini et al. 2015: 94.6% pooled 5-year survival across implant systems.
Best for: standard bone volume, cost-conscious cases, patients not planning future implant work in countries with limited Osstem distribution.
Straumann / Nobel Biocare — Swiss / Swedish
From A$12,087 per arch. Gold standard in international implant research. Bone Level Tapered design provides superior aesthetics at the gum margin. Abutment system available from specialist implant dentists globally — important for future maintenance at home.
Best for: anterior aesthetics, patients who want implants serviceable at any specialist practice globally, those with complex gum architecture.
All-on-4 FAQ — Hoi An trips
Why does Hoi An not do All-on-6 independently?
Hoi An has no dental clinic operating at the surgical complexity required for All-on-4 or All-on-6 arch reconstruction. All such cases are performed at the Da Nang partner clinic. This is not a limitation — the Da Nang clinic has a dedicated surgical suite, in-house prosthetics lab, and All-on-4 CBCT planning capability. Hoi An is where you stay, not where you are treated.
How many trips does All-on-4 require from Hoi An?
Two trips: Trip 1 (surgery and immediate-load temporaries, 8–12 days) and Trip 2 (final zirconia bridge, 5–7 days, 3–6 months later). Between trips you return home with functioning temporary teeth. The final bridge trip is also Hoi An-based — the same twin-city arrangement works identically for both visits.
What diet restrictions apply post-surgery in Hoi An?
Soft food only for 2–3 months while osseointegration occurs. Hoi An is excellent for this: congee, pho, braised tofu, steamed fish, banana smoothies, and coconut water are all soft and widely available. The town's food culture suits the recovery diet well.
Is the surgery performed under sedation?
IV sedation is available at the Da Nang partner clinic for All-on-4 surgery. Most patients prefer sedation for a 3–5 hour arch procedure. You must not Grab alone after IV sedation — plan for someone to accompany you back to Hoi An, or use the clinic's transfer service.
Am I a candidate for All-on-4 from Hoi An?
All-on-4 is appropriate for patients who are missing most or all teeth in an arch, or who have teeth that are failing and will require extraction. It is not suitable for patients with untreated gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, or bone volume too low even for angled implants. The Da Nang clinician confirms candidacy from your CBCT before any surgical commitment is made.
Good candidate profile
Most or all teeth missing in one or both arches. Adequate bone volume at the four implant sites (CBCT-confirmed). Non-smoker, or light smoker willing to cease peri-surgically. Good general health. Can commit to two Hoi An trips 3–6 months apart.
Bone graft may be needed
Some patients lack sufficient bone at specific implant sites. Small grafts (from A$536 per site) can be performed simultaneously with implant placement. Larger sinus lifts (from A$918) may add a 4–6 month healing period before All-on-4 can proceed. CBCT review identifies this before travel.
Not yet a candidate
Active untreated gum disease must be resolved before implant placement. Patients on bisphosphonate medications (for osteoporosis) require specialist assessment. Uncontrolled blood sugar in diabetic patients increases infection risk. These are not permanent exclusions — they are conditions to resolve first.
The two-trip All-on-4 timeline for Hoi An patients
Between trips you return home with fully functional temporary teeth. Trip 2 is typically 6-7 days versus Trip 1 at 10-14 days.
All-on-4 recovery in Hoi An: the Ancient Town experience
Post-All-on-4 recovery in Hoi An is genuinely different from recovering in a city hotel near a clinic. The Ancient Town offers a recovery environment that matches the dietary and activity restrictions of the post-surgical period without making you feel confined.
Soft foods everywhere
Hoi An Ancient Town has abundant soft-food options within short walking distance of every guesthouse. Chao (rice congee), pho broth, steamed rice, banana smoothies, silken tofu, and coconut water are on every corner. The soft-food restrictions of All-on-4 recovery fit naturally into Hoi An cuisine without effort.
Lantern walks as gentle exercise
The car-free Ancient Town is the ideal environment for the gentle walking recommended during All-on-4 recovery. Flat cobblestone streets, no traffic noise, river breezes, and silk lantern light at dusk. A 20-minute evening walk at slow pace through the Japanese Covered Bridge precinct is exactly the activity level appropriate for Days 4 to 6 post-surgery.
Cycling to An Bang Beach
From Day 7 to 9, most patients feel well enough for a gentle bicycle ride to An Bang Beach via the paddy field route. Flat terrain, 25-minute ride, beach café at the end. The physical effort is minimal. Cycling pace here is unhurried. This is one of the most-cited recovery day highlights for All-on-4 patients who based in Hoi An for their surgical trip.
All-on-4 vs All-on-6 for Hoi An patients
| Factor | All-on-4 | All-on-6 |
|---|---|---|
| Implants per arch | 4 | 6 |
| AUD from (Osstem, per arch) | A$9,945 | A$11,781 |
| Bone volume required | Lower — angled posterior implants compensate | Higher — posterior implants must be straight |
| Posterior support | Good — angled placement distributes load | Excellent — additional implants add stability |
| Ideal arch | Upper or lower, standard bone volume | Lower arch especially, dense posterior bone |
| Trip structure | Two trips: same as All-on-6 | Two trips: same as All-on-4 |
The choice between All-on-4 and All-on-6 is determined by bone density at the posterior implant sites (confirmed on CBCT) and patient anatomy. For Hoi An-based patients, the trip structure and recovery experience are identical regardless of which configuration is recommended. The Da Nang clinician advises which configuration is indicated after reviewing your CBCT at the first appointment.
