E.max vs zirconia: which to choose
Both are premium ceramic veneers used at SmileJet partner clinics in Bali. The right choice depends on what you want them to do.
E.max (lithium disilicate)
The aesthetic gold standard for cosmetic veneers. Translucency closely mimics natural enamel. Bonded with resin cement directly to the tooth surface. Most natural-looking option, the choice for front-of-mouth cosmetic cases. Wears similarly to natural enamel.
Zirconia
Stronger and more durable than E.max, but slightly less translucent. Best for patients who grind their teeth at night, or for posterior veneers that take more chewing load. Multilayered zirconia (used at top Bali clinics) closes the aesthetic gap considerably.

How many veneers do I actually need?
Most cosmetic patients get 6, 8, or 10 veneers covering the front of the upper smile (and sometimes the lower). Full upper-and-lower makeovers use 16 to 20 veneers. Your Bali dentist will preview the smile digitally on Day 1 so you can decide before the prep is done.
Will my teeth be shaved down a lot?
Modern veneers require around 0.3 to 0.7 mm of enamel removal, which is minimal. No-prep or ultra-thin veneers (around 0.2 mm) are also offered at PT Dental Canggu and Sunset Dental for suitable cases. Your dentist confirms the technique on Day 1.
Will my veneers look natural?

Do veneers stain like natural teeth?
No, porcelain veneers do not stain from coffee, tea, or red wine. The thin layer of cement at the gum-line can slowly discolour over years; routine hygiene visits at home address this.
What about composite bonding instead of veneers?
Composite bonding (US$90 per tooth in Bali) is a cheaper, less invasive option for small chips, gaps, or shape adjustments. It typically lasts 4 to 7 years and is more prone to staining. We can do bonding alone, or combine it with veneers for back teeth where porcelain is overkill.
