Why patients choose Bali for implants
Three reasons that consistently come up in our patient debriefs.
Same brands, different overhead
Top Bali clinics stock Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem, and Dentium. The implant in your jaw is identical to the one a Sydney specialist would place. Bali clinic operating costs (rent, staff, regulatory) sit at a fraction of the Sydney equivalent, which is where the price gap comes from. Not the implant.
Two-trip protocol fits Aussie work calendars
Trip 1 is 4 days, Trip 2 is 5 days, with 3 to 4 months of healing at home in between. Both trips fit easily into a long weekend plus a few days of leave. Many AU patients combine Trip 2 with a school-holiday family visit they were going to take anyway.
Recovery is the trip you would already book
Most dental tourism destinations leave you in a hotel room until you can fly home. Bali has Seminyak beach walks for Day 3, Sanur reef strolls for Day 1 to 2, Ubud rice terraces for Day 5+, and spa days that work from Day 2. Recovery becomes a wellness retreat, not a hotel-room countdown.
Your Bali implant journey, day by day
Single-implant timeline from Sydney. Two trips, 9 days total in Bali, 3 to 4 months of healing at home in between.
Placement and recovery
- Day 1: Arrive Denpasar (DPS), Grab transfer to Seminyak or Sanur, consultation and CBCT scan at clinic.
- Day 2: Implant placement, around 90 minutes under local anaesthesia. Soft food, rest at hotel.
- Day 3: Soft-food beach walks (Sanur reef or Seminyak sunset). Spa day fine, no facial pressure.
- Day 4: Final post-op check, written care plan in English, fly home.
Osseointegration at home
The implant fuses with your jawbone. Eat normally on the other side of your mouth. Brush as instructed.
Made WhatsApps you every 2 weeks for the first 6 weeks, then monthly. Sends reminders for soft-tissue check at your home dentist if needed.
Crown fitting
- Day 1: Arrive Denpasar, transfer to hotel.
- Day 2: Abutment fit, crown impression or digital scan.
- Day 3: Crown try-in, adjustments.
- Day 4: Free day, Nusa Penida or Ubud rice terraces.
- Day 5: Final cementation, x-ray, fly home.

Clinical outcomes
Modern dental implants are among the most predictable procedures in dentistry. The Moraschini et al. 2015 systematic review pooled data from 23 studies and reported a 5-year cumulative implant survival rate of approximately 94.6% across the global implant literature.
Moraschini V, Poubel LA, Ferreira VF, Barboza ES. Evaluation of survival and success rates of dental implants reported in longitudinal studies with a follow-up period of at least 10 years: a systematic review. Clin Oral Investig. DOI:10.1007/s00784-014-1417-9
SmileJet partner clinics in Bali meet or exceed this benchmark. We track every SmileJet-referred patient outcome for 12 months post-treatment. Clinics whose 12-month complication rates fall below this benchmark are removed from our network.
Bali dental implant FAQ
How much does a single dental implant cost in Bali?
Single implant with crown ranges from US$980 (~A$1,500) at neighborhood clinics like Sunset Dental Seminyak and Hello Bali Ubud, up to US$1,150 (~A$1,760) at BIMC Hospital Nusa Dua. Sydney average for the same procedure is around A$6,500.
How many trips to Bali do I need for an implant?
Standard protocol is 2 trips. Trip 1 is 4 days for placement, then 3 to 4 months osseointegration at home, then Trip 2 is 5 days for crown fitting. Some clinics offer same-day immediate-load implants for urgent cases (single trip of 7 to 10 days).
What implant brands do Bali clinics use?
Top Bali clinics stock Straumann (Switzerland), Nobel Biocare (Sweden), Osstem (Korea), and Dentium (Korea). Specific availability varies by clinic; ask in your free quote.
Are dental implants in Bali safe?
At verified clinics, yes. The Moraschini et al. 2015 systematic review reports a pooled 5-year implant survival rate of approximately 94.6% across 23 studies. SmileJet partner clinics meet or exceed this benchmark and use EU CE-marked sterilisation standards.
Will I need a bone graft or sinus lift?
Most patients do not. We can usually tell from CBCT scans during your first consultation. If a graft or lift is needed, the cost is included in your re-quote on arrival, with no surprise bills. Bone graft is typically US$480 per site, sinus lift US$720 per side at SmileJet partner clinics.
Is anaesthesia available?
All implant surgeries are done under local anaesthesia, the same as in Australia. IV sedation is available at BIMC Hospital and several Seminyak clinics for nervous patients (additional fee, typically US$120 to US$240).
What happens if my implant fails?
SmileJet's 12-month treatment guarantee covers free re-treatment at our partner network if any treatment-related issue arises. We coordinate the entire process: replacement implant, fresh crown, accommodation. You only cover your flights for the corrective trip.
Can I drink alcohol or smoke after my implant?
Avoid both for at least 72 hours post-surgery, ideally 7 days. Smoking is the single biggest risk factor for implant failure across the literature. If you smoke, your clinic will discuss this in detail at the consultation.
