Whitening options at Bali clinics

All four options are available at SmileJet partner clinics. The right choice depends on your time in Bali and how dramatic a result you want.

Philips Zoom in-chair

Most popular
Time: 90 minutes Result: 4–6 shades lighter

The global benchmark for professional in-chair whitening. Three 15-minute cycles under the Zoom LED light, preceded by gum protection. The single fastest and most dramatic result available in one session. Done on any day of your Bali trip.

Laser whitening (in-chair)

Fast & affordable
Time: 60–90 minutes Result: 3–5 shades lighter

A hydrogen or carbamide peroxide gel activated by a dental laser or curing light. Achieves strong results at a lower cost than Zoom. A good option for patients who want professional whitening without the Philips brand premium.

Take-home tray kit

Gradual results
Time: 2–3 weeks at home Result: 2–4 shades lighter

Custom-fitted upper and lower trays made in Bali, with professional-strength whitening gel syringes to use at home over 2 to 3 weeks. Best for patients who prefer a gradual result or who have sensitivity to in-chair treatment. Trays are fitted at the clinic and ready to take home.

Combination (in-chair + home trays)

Maximum result
Time: 90 min in-chair + 2 weeks home Result: 5–8 shades lighter

The most comprehensive whitening option: professional in-chair Zoom to jumpstart the result, followed by take-home trays for maintenance and additional lightening over the following 2 weeks. Best for patients who want the whitest possible result and plan to maintain it at home.

Whiten before veneers and crowns, not after

If you are planning veneers, crowns, or a bridge at the same time as whitening, the order matters. Porcelain and zirconia restorations are colour-matched to your teeth at the moment the shade is recorded — typically on Day 1 or 2 of your trip. If you whiten your teeth after the restorations are already placed, your natural teeth will become lighter but the ceramic work will not. The result is a visible mismatch between your natural and restored teeth.

The correct sequence is: whiten first, wait at least 2 weeks for shade stabilisation (bleached enamel is temporarily more porous and the shade drifts slightly for the first two weeks), then take the shade record and impressions for your restorations. At Bali clinics, this timing works within a single trip: whiten on Day 1, temporaries are fitted on Day 2 at the lighter shade, and the final crowns or veneers are matched to the whitened result. Your dentist will manage the sequencing for you during the Day 1 treatment plan.

Who whitening is not suitable for

Intrinsic staining

Staining caused by tetracycline antibiotics taken during tooth development, fluorosis, or trauma-related internal discolouration does not respond to peroxide whitening. The discolouration is inside the tooth structure, not on the surface. Veneers or crowns are the appropriate treatment for these cases.

Existing crowns or veneers

Whitening gel does not change the colour of ceramic, zirconia, or composite restorations. If you have crowns or veneers you are happy with, whitening will lighten your natural teeth but not the restorations, creating a mismatch. If the restorations need replacing anyway, whiten first and match the new restorations to the whitened shade.

Active gum disease or decay

Whitening is deferred until active gum disease, untreated decay, and open cavities are addressed. The whitening gel can penetrate compromised tooth structure and cause significant sensitivity or irritation. Your Bali dentist will check for these on Day 1 before any whitening is done.

The easiest add-on to any Bali dental trip

Teeth whitening is the simplest treatment to add to a Bali dental visit. The in-chair session takes 90 minutes, requires no preparation beyond avoiding dark foods and drinks on the day, and has no recovery time. You can whiten at 9am and spend the afternoon at a Seminyak beach club. There is nothing to manage on the day except mild transient sensitivity for some patients, which typically resolves within 24 hours.

If you are already travelling to Bali for implants, crowns, or veneers, adding whitening costs A$306 to A$428 extra and fits into any free morning or afternoon of your trip. Many SmileJet patients add Zoom on Day 1 (before shade-matching begins), then use the take-home trays to maintain the result after returning to Australia. It is consistently the highest-satisfaction add-on in our patient feedback — a quick, noticeable, low-risk improvement for a modest extra cost.

Bali teeth whitening FAQ

How much does teeth whitening cost in Bali?

Professional in-chair whitening starts from US$200 (~A$306) for laser whitening and US$280 (~A$428) for Philips Zoom at SmileJet partner clinics. A take-home tray kit is US$100 (~A$153). Sydney averages A$550 to A$700 for comparable in-chair treatment.

How many shades lighter will my teeth get?

Philips Zoom in-chair whitening typically achieves 4 to 6 shades lighter in a single 90-minute session. Laser whitening achieves 3 to 5 shades. Results depend on your starting shade and stain type. Surface staining from coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco responds best. Intrinsic staining (antibiotics, fluorosis) does not respond to whitening.

Should I whiten before or after veneers and crowns?

Always whiten before veneers, crowns, or bridges. Restorations are colour-matched to your teeth at the time of impression. If you whiten after they are placed, your natural teeth lighten but the restorations do not, creating a visible mismatch. Whiten first, allow 2 weeks for shade stabilisation, then proceed with impressions — all manageable within a single Bali trip.

How long does Philips Zoom whitening take?

Approximately 90 minutes at the clinic. After a gum protection step, the Zoom gel is applied and activated under the light in three 15-minute cycles. Most patients leave the same day with visibly whiter teeth. No recovery time is required.

Is teeth whitening in Bali safe?

Yes, when done by a licensed dentist using professional-grade peroxide gel. The concentrations used in Bali clinics are the same as those used by Sydney cosmetic dentists. Your dentist checks for active decay, open cavities, and gum disease before proceeding. Mild transient sensitivity is common for 24 to 48 hours; it resolves on its own.

Can I combine whitening with other dental work in the same Bali trip?

Yes — whitening is one of the easiest treatments to add to any dental visit. In-chair whitening takes 90 minutes with no recovery time. If you are getting veneers or crowns, whiten on Day 1 and allow 2 weeks before final impressions (managed within the same trip). If you are getting implants, whitening can be done during either trip at any point.
