Mexico City Accommodation Guide
Where to Stay in Mexico City
Walk to your clinic. Eat at world-class restaurants. Recover in comfort.
Mexico City has five distinct neighbourhoods used by dental tourists, each with different vibes, price ranges, and proximity to clinics. Your choice depends on treatment length, budget, and how much of the city you want to experience. This guide covers them all.
Neighbourhood Guide
Polanco
Best for: International patientsMexico City's most upscale and safest neighbourhood. Tree-lined streets, Michelin-recommended restaurants, 5-star hotels, and 15+ international dental clinics – most of them within walking distance of each other. Polanco is the default choice for dental tourists and the neighbourhoodmost clinic coordinators assume you are staying in.
Ideal for full-mouth reconstruction patients who need concierge-level access – you can walk from your hotel lobby to your clinic door in under 10 minutes in most cases.
Condesa / Roma
Best for: Cosmetic dentistry patientsMexico City's hippest neighbourhood. Leafy parks, independent cafes, natural wine bars, and an excellent variety of soft-food restaurants – grain bowls, soups, smoothies, and fresh juices are everywhere. Home to several DSD (Digital Smile Design) focused cosmetic clinics.
Best suited to patients having veneers, teeth whitening, or shorter multi-visit procedures who want a lively neighbourhood base. Shorter treatment timeline means you get to enjoy CDMX more.
Santa Fe
Best for: Complex surgical casesMexico City's modern business district, home to some of the most technically advanced dental facilities in Latin America. Purpose-built clinics with CBCT scanning, digital implant planning, and full-sedation capability. Less character than central CDMX – this is a corporate corridor – but facilities are cutting-edge.
The practical advice: base yourself in Polanco for the best city experience and Uber to Santa Fe for appointments. The commute is 20–30 minutes and costs A$8–12 each way.
Lomas de Chapultepec
Best for: Extended staysQuiet, residential, and wealthy – Lomas feels like a different city from the bustle of Polanco. Ideal for patients undergoing full-mouth reconstruction across 3–4 weeks who want a calm home base during extended healing phases. Chapultepec Forest, one of the world's largest urban parks, is a five-minute walk for daily recovery strolls.
Limited hotel stock – mainly furnished apartments via Airbnb and VRBO. This is a genuine neighbourhood of Mexico City residents, not a tourist strip.
Historic Centre (Centro Histórico)
Best for: Culture + budgetThe heart of ancient and colonial Mexico City. Ancient Aztec ruins beside baroque cathedrals, Diego Rivera murals in government palaces, and incredible street food at every turn. More chaotic and stimulating than Polanco – an unforgettable base for first-time visitors to Mexico.
Perfectly safe for daytime tourism. Take standard city precautions at night (same advice applies in any major city). Not ideal as a primary dental base due to distance from Polanco clinics – better for short procedures with only 1–2 clinic visits.

Post-Dental Soft Food Dining
Mexico City is one of the best cities in the world for post-dental soft foods. Caldo de pollo (chicken broth), consommé, soups, tamales, smoothies, fresh juices, and aguachile are everywhere – many are traditional dishes, not afterthoughts. Recovery eating in CDMX is genuinely pleasurable.
Quintonil – Polanco
One of Latin America's best restaurants. Multiple soft-preparation options – heirloom corn porridge, slow-cooked broths, chilled vegetable preparations. Book ahead. Excellent for a recovery dinner celebration.
Expendio de Maíz – Roma
A no-menu traditional kitchen serving whatever is prepared that day. Corn-based dishes, soups, and slow-cooked stews dominate. Soft textures throughout, deeply flavourful, and very affordable.
Any CDMX juice bar – citywide
Mexico City has a juice bar culture rivalling Los Angeles. Fresh licuados (milk-based), agua fresca, and protein smoothies are on every street in Polanco and Condesa – ideal fuel for the day before and after procedures.
