When you need a root canal
Root canal therapy is required when the soft pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or inflamed — usually from deep decay, repeated dental procedures, or trauma. Untreated, the infection spreads to the surrounding bone and risks the loss of the tooth and damage to neighbouring teeth.
The treatment removes the infected pulp, cleans and disinfects the root canals, and seals them with a biocompatible filling. The tooth is preserved. After healing, a crown is fitted (we recommend zirconia) because root-canal-treated teeth become more brittle and need protection from chewing forces.
