The combination trip
One trip. New teeth. Angkor Wat at sunrise.
Most dental tourism is just dental tourism. Phnom Penh patients can also walk one of the wonders of the world. The 45-minute domestic flight from PNH to Siem Reap is the easiest "and-then" in dental tourism.
A typical combination plan
4 to 7 days depending on treatment
Phnom Penh — Treatment days
Treatment is delivered in Phnom Penh per your standard plan: arrival, coordinator pickup, consultation, treatment day(s), recovery, and follow-up. We do not modify the treatment timeline to accommodate Siem Reap; the dental work is the priority.
Day before flying to Siem Reap
Final clinical check
Your dentist confirms healing tolerance is sufficient for travel and gentle walking. Most simple cases (single implants, veneers, crowns) clear easily; All-on-4 patients usually need to wait until the second trip.
45 minutes
Domestic flight PNH → REP
Cambodia Angkor Air and JC International Airlines run multiple daily flights. Coordinator pre-books one with comfortable timing (usually mid-morning to allow easy hotel checkout). Domestic security is fast.
Arrive, settle, gentle exploration
Siem Reap — Day 1
Check into your Siem Reap hotel (we recommend mid-range boutiques near Pub Street or near the Angkor entrance). Light exploration of the old market and a casual Khmer dinner. Early night.
Angkor Wat at sunrise
Siem Reap — Day 2
Pre-booked Khmer-speaking guide collects you at 4:30am. Sunrise at Angkor Wat (the iconic moment most patients come for). Continue to Bayon temple at South Gate of Angkor Thom. Return to hotel by lunch for rest. Optional afternoon: Ta Prohm (the "Tomb Raider" temple).
Optional extra day
Siem Reap — Day 3
Banteay Srei (the pink-stone "Citadel of Women" 30 minutes outside town), or Tonle Sap floating villages, or simply rest by the hotel pool.
Day 4
Fly home from REP
Most international connections back home are easier from Siem Reap than Phnom Penh, with Bangkok, Singapore, and Seoul connections available.
Cost of the Siem Reap leg
| Item | Cost (USD) | Cost (AUD) |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic flight PNH → REP, return | US$220 | A$337 |
| Mid-range Siem Reap hotel, 3 nights | US$180 | A$275 |
| Khmer-speaking guide, 2 days | US$120 | A$184 |
| Angkor Wat 3-day pass | US$62 | A$95 |
| Tuk-tuks, meals, incidentals | US$120 | A$184 |
| Total Siem Reap leg (4 days, mid-range) | US$702 | A$1,074 |
A 4-day mid-range Siem Reap leg adds approximately A$1,074 to your trip. Even with this added, most Australian patients still save A$10,000+ versus Sydney quotes on a typical implant or veneer treatment.
Recovery considerations
The Siem Reap extension is suitable for most simple cases (single implants, veneers, crowns, whitening) once final fittings are complete. Multi-implant cases, full-arch work, and any case with active swelling or stitches typically wait until the second trip.
Walking Angkor Wat involves several hours on uneven stone surfaces in 28 to 32°C heat. Bring soft hat, water, and sun protection. Pre-booked guides set a gentle pace tailored to recovery patients — this is one reason we use SmileJet partner guides rather than generic tour-desk options.
If your case is borderline, your dentist will give you the call at your final pre-departure check. We never push the Siem Reap extension when clinical caution suggests otherwise; you can return on a future trip.
