Best time to visit Phnom Penh for dental tourism

By SmileJet Editorial Team · Updated May 2026

Most months work for dental treatment — the clinic environment is climate-controlled. The right month for your trip depends on flight prices, clinic capacity, climate comfort for outdoor activities, and any Khmer public-holiday closures.

Cambodian public holidays to plan around

Cambodia observes around 22 public holidays per year — more than most countries. Most have minor impact on clinic operations (clinics typically close for 1 to 2 days per holiday), but a few are significant:

  • Khmer New Year (Choul Chnam Thmey), 13 to 16 April. The biggest national holiday. Most clinics close for the full 4 days. Hotels are open but staffing is reduced. Avoid scheduling treatment in this window unless you have a specific reason. Plan around it.
  • Pchum Ben (Ancestors\' Day), 3-day window in late September or early October. Many Cambodian families travel home to provincial villages. Some clinics close 1 to 2 days. Bookable around it but check specific dates with your coordinator.
  • Water Festival (Bon Om Touk), 3-day window in November. The river festival on the Tonle Sap. Riverside areas become very crowded. Clinics largely stay open but transportation is harder.
  • Christmas and Western New Year, late December to early January. Cambodia is not a Christian-majority country and Christmas is not a holiday. Clinics operate normally. Western new year is a 1-day clinic close.
  • King\'s Birthday, 14 May. 1-day clinic close.
  • Royal Ploughing Ceremony, late May or early June. 1-day clinic close.
  • Constitution Day, 24 September. 1-day clinic close.
  • Independence Day, 9 November. 1-day clinic close.

Your coordinator works around all of these when scheduling your trip. If your dates are fixed by external factors and overlap a major holiday, we usually recommend shifting by a few days rather than fighting reduced clinic capacity.

Our quick recommendation

For the best overall trip experience: January or February.

For best value: Late September or early October.

For shoulder-season balance: March or November.

To avoid: 13 to 16 April (Khmer New Year) and any week with a major holiday at the start or end.

For multi-trip cases (All-on-4, full mouth), we typically recommend Trip 1 in November or January and Trip 2 around 4 to 5 months later (March or May). Both trips fall in the dry-season window with a comfortable healing interval. Full mouth cases (3 trips over 12 to 18 months) usually align with the consecutive dry-season windows of three calendar years.
