Field notes from Turkey

We've toured the clinics, priced the procedures, and watched the waiting rooms. Here's what we found on the ground — and what we'd tell a friend considering the trip.

Turkey is one of the world's largest and fastest-growing dental tourism markets, welcoming over 750,000 international dental patients annually with unmatched pricing (70-85% savings vs Western Europe) combined with premium infrastructure in Istanbul and coastal Bodrum. SmileJet has verified 136 clinics: Istanbul (115 clinics) and Bodrum (21 clinics). Partner clinics maintain a collective 4.8 average rating across 13,838 patient reviews. Leading clinics include Istanbul Dentavie Dental Clinic, Dentvibe Dental Clinic, Hospitaprime Clinic, Avangart Clinic in Istanbul, and Diş Hekimi Uğur Koçak in Bodrum. Turkish dentists train at Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry, Hacettepe University, and Ankara University, with many completing specialty training in the US or Europe. Leading clinics use Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem, and IPS E.max materials with fully digital CAD/CAM workflows — often at JCI-accredited hospital dental departments. [1]

Where the clinics are

Most of the quality concentration in Turkey sits in two to three cities. Each has its own character, its own airport, and its own mix of specialisms. Start by picking the city.

After meeting Dr. Uğur, a significant need we had in Bodrum was addressed. In fact, when my daughter and my son came from Istanbul and England, they ended up addressing all their dental problems here. With his state-of-the-art equipment, his commitment to hygi...

What's different about dentistry here

The training

Senior clinicians at our Turkey-partner clinics typically hold international fellowships (ICOI, Pankey, Kois) alongside domestic credentials. We verify each one, and link them on every clinic dossier.

The equipment

CBCT, digital impressions, and in-house milling are standard at our top-tier clinics. Materials are imported — Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Ivoclar. Our audits photograph lot numbers and expiration dates.

The logistics

English-speaking coordinators, airport pickup, hotel coordination, and post-op follow-up via WhatsApp are table stakes. If a clinic doesn't do these things, they don't make our list.

The follow-up

We keep touch for 12 months post-treatment. Any clinic that drops communication with a patient for more than 72 hours gets flagged and eventually dropped. Patient support is the one non-negotiable.

Frequently asked

01

Is dental work in Turkey safe?

Yes. Turkish dentistry is regulated by the Turkish Dental Association with strict licensing requirements. SmileJet partner clinics hold a 4.8 average rating across 13,800+ reviews. Turkey has more JCI-accredited hospitals than most Western European countries, and many premium dental clinics operate within JCI-accredited hospital settings. Turkish dentists train at globally respected schools with many holding US or European specialty qualifications.
02

How much can I save on dental work in Turkey?

Typical savings versus UK, German, or US prices are 70-85%. Single dental implants cost EUR €400-€900 in Turkey vs £2,400 UK or €3,500 Germany. Porcelain veneers EUR €150-€350 per tooth. Zirconia crowns EUR €150-€300. All-on-4 full-arch implants run EUR €4,500-€7,500 per arch vs £15,000 UK or €20,000 Germany.
03

Istanbul or Bodrum — which is better?

Istanbul (115 clinics) offers the deepest specialist coverage, best international flight connections, JCI-accredited hospital dental departments, and premium clinics clustered in districts like Nişantaşı, Levent, and Şişli. Bodrum (21 clinics) combines dental work with Aegean beach resorts and yachting. Istanbul for complex cases and specialist access; Bodrum for leisure-focused dental trips.
04

Why is Turkey so popular for All-on-4 and Hollywood smile work?

Turkish clinics have become globally dominant in two specialties: full-arch implant rehabilitation (All-on-4/6) and multi-tooth porcelain veneer Hollywood smile work. The combination of extremely competitive pricing (70-85% savings), premium CAD/CAM infrastructure, and Instagram-friendly aesthetic results has driven massive inbound patient flow from the UK, Ireland, Germany, Scandinavia, and North America.
05

Do I need a visa to visit Turkey for dental treatment?

Most nationalities including US, UK, and many EU nationalities can obtain an e-visa online before travel (USD $35-50 for 30-90 days). Some EU nationalities enter visa-free. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond entry. No special medical visa is required. The Turkish e-visa system is fast and reliable.
06

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for dental work?

Veneers and crowns typically need 5-7 days across 2-3 appointments. Dental implants require 7-10 days for placement, with a return visit 4-6 months later for the final crown. Teeth whitening and cleaning are same-day. All-on-4 full-arch implants take 10-14 days. Same-day implant protocols are available at select premium Istanbul clinics for time-constrained patients.
07

Do Turkish dentists speak English?

All SmileJet partner clinics in Turkey have English-speaking dentists and patient coordinators. English fluency is particularly strong given Turkey's massive international patient volume — many dentists trained in the UK or US. Russian, German, and Arabic support is also common at major Istanbul clinics. Treatment plans and aftercare instructions are always provided in English.
08

What implant brands are used by Turkish clinics?

Top Turkish clinics use Straumann (Switzerland), Nobel Biocare (Sweden), Osstem (Korea), Dentium (Korea), MIS (Israel), Megagen (Korea), and Ankylos (Dentsply Sirona). IPS E.max (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Zirconia BruxZir are standard for crowns and veneers. Turkey's dental supply chain is mature — all major global brands available with certificates provided.
09

What's the best time of year to visit Turkey?

April to June and September to October offer ideal weather for Istanbul — warm but not too hot, fewer tourists, lower hotel prices. Summer (July-August) is hot but good for Bodrum beach combinations. Winter (December-March) is cool/cold in Istanbul but fine for indoor clinical work; cheaper hotel prices. Bodrum is best May-October. Dental clinics operate year-round.
