I went here for teeth whitening, they told me they could not do it as there is trauma to one of my teeth so it would not work. I am glad they told me this and didn’t just do it anyway, and they didn’t just do it anyway and charge me.

I made an appointment online and was able to book a same-day visit, which was nice. I wanted to get a dent filled that was caused when my Invisalign technician removed one of my Invisalign “buttons.” In addition, I wanted to close a few small gaps on the bottom row of my teeth. I was quoted $115 USD per tooth. I agreed to the price and decided to go in. I arrived about 10 minutes early and was greeted by an English interpreter. Since my Vietnamese is limited, I thought having an interpreter was a nice touch. She asked me to sit down and fill out a medical form—the standard paperwork you complete when visiting a doctor or dentist for the first time. The form was mostly in Vietnamese with some English mixed in, which wasn’t a problem because I could just take a picture and use Google Translate. The interpreter started “helping” me fill it out, even though I hadn’t asked for assistance. I began completing the form, but for some reason, she started rushing me. The form asked for my passport information, so I took out my passport. While I was literally holding it in my hand, she kept repeating, “Fill out passport number—eleven. Fill out passport number—eleven.” I asked her why she was saying “eleven,” but she didn’t answer. Then she told me to take off my shoes and put on slippers—and to put my shoes away—while I was still filling out the form. I started to take them off, and she suddenly said, “No, do that after you finish the form.” At that point, I was confused. In my head, I was wondering why she seemed so irritated. Next, she told me to fill out my address. I don’t have the address where I’m staying memorized, so I needed to check my phone. Addresses in Vietnam are structured differently than in the U.S., so I asked her for help since she was hovering over me anyway. She seemed even more annoyed. I asked her what to put for the “ward.” She told me, “District 1.” But that’s not the ward—that would be the district (quận). After all the back-and-forth, I finally finished the form. She then led me upstairs. That’s when I took off my shoes and put on the slippers. I reached for my backpack, and she abruptly told me to leave it and follow her upstairs. So I left it. Upstairs, I met the dentist. He spoke some English, which was reassuring. He asked why I was there, and I explained that I wanted to get my teeth filled. He said, “Okay, let’s check your teeth.” I was wearing my Invisalign retainer, so I took it off. I always wear my retainers to dental appointments—just in case. If any work is done, I want to make sure they’ll still fit afterward. After examining my teeth, he told me he didn’t recommend doing any work. I was confused. He made some valid points, but the whole reason I came was for cosmetic work. I had already discussed everything over the phone when booking the appointment. I even showed them pictures of my teeth and explained exactly what I wanted, and they told me it was possible. He explained that I couldn’t get composite bonding because my retainer wouldn’t fit afterward. That didn’t fully make sense to me, since I’ve had fillings done in the States before, and they were able to shape them so my retainers still fit. It was more expensive in the States, so I didn’t get all the work done that I wanted. He said if I still wanted to move forward, I would need to sign a waiver. After all that, I decided not to get the fillings done there. He said he might as well finish checking my teeth. He told me they were in good condition and then gave me advice on how to brush them properly. And that was it. I walked downstairs, grabbed my shoes and backpack, and left. It took longer to fill out the paperwork than it did to meet with the dentist. I walked out of the dental office wondering what kind of strange experience I had just had.
