Why Ecuador quotes dental work in US dollars

Ecuador is the rare dental destination where the quoted number and the paid number are the same.

Ecuador uses the United States dollar as its national currency. For anyone budgeting dental treatment abroad, that removes an entire category of uncertainty, and it is worth understanding what it does and does not do.

What it removes.

In most dental destinations a quote arrives in the local currency and reaches you through a conversion. Three things then move between quote and payment: the exchange rate itself, the spread your card or bank applies, and the rounding used to present a tidy figure on a web page.

None of that applies here. A fee published as $600 to $750 for an implant is dollars, quoted by the clinic, in the currency it transacts in.

It also makes comparison against a quote at home direct. A US patient reading $300 to $400 for an E-max crown is comparing like with like, with no arithmetic in between.

What it does not remove.

Currency is not the main reason dental quotes drift. These are:

  • Items outside the quote. Imaging, grafts, extractions, sedation, retainers.
  • Plans that change. Decay deeper than the x-ray suggested turns a filling into a root canal and a crown.
  • Per-tooth versus per-case. Veneers are quoted per tooth. Multiply before you budget.
  • Travel. Flights and accommodation are not in any clinic's fee.

A stable currency makes the published number reliable. It does not make an incomplete quote complete.

How to use it.

Because there is no conversion to argue about, you can ask for something precise: an itemised written quote in dollars, listing what is included and naming what is not. If a clinic can produce that, currency risk on your treatment is close to zero.

The full published fee list for Cuenca is the starting point, and the booking checklist covers the omissions.

Where these numbers come from.

Every figure on this page is the fee published by INNOVATIVE DENTAL, the one clinic we list in Cuenca. It is a featured partner, which describes a selection process and a commercial relationship, not a clinical endorsement.

We list one clinic in Ecuador, so this is not a market survey and nothing here ranks one clinic against another. Prices can change. Confirm your own case with the clinic before you book flights.

Prices are indicative; only a clinic's written quote applies to you. See how we source prices. SmileJet is an information service, not a healthcare provider, and nothing here is medical advice.
