Questions to ask a Cuenca dentist before you book

Most problems with dental treatment abroad are not clinical. They are things nobody asked about and nobody wrote down. This is the list.

About the price.

1. Is this quote itemised? Each treatment should be its own line. For implants, the fixture and the crown are two separate items.
2. What is not included? X-rays, scans, bone grafts, extractions, sedation and retainers are the usual omissions.
3. What happens to the price if the plan changes mid-treatment? Decay is often deeper than it looked. Ask now, not later.
4. Is the fee per tooth or per arch? This matters for veneers and dentures and is the easiest figure to misread.

About the treatment.

1. What material are you using, and why that one? A clinic that can explain why zirconia rather than E-max for your specific tooth is thinking about your case.
2. Which implant system? Ask for the brand. It matters if the implant ever needs servicing by another dentist in another country.
3. What are the alternatives, including doing nothing? There is almost always more than one option.
4. How many appointments, and how far apart? This is what decides your flights, not the treatment itself.

About afterwards.

1. Is there a warranty, and what does it actually cover? Get it in writing. A verbal guarantee is worth nothing from another continent.
2. Who pays if something fails after I fly home? Ask specifically whether that includes the cost of returning.
3. Who do I contact if there is a problem next week? Get a name and a channel, not a switchboard.
4. Will you send my records? You want your x-rays and treatment notes in a form your dentist at home can use.

The one that tells you most.

Ask whether they mind you taking the written plan for a second opinion. The answer tells you more about a clinic than any of the other eleven.
