Dentures in Ecuador: acrylic or metal frame

A denture is the one treatment where rushing the appointments ruins the result. Read the timetable before you read the price.

Full or partial.

A full denture replaces every tooth in one jaw and rests on the gum. A partial replaces some teeth and clips to the ones you still have.

The metal frame version of a partial costs more than an all-acrylic one and is worth it for most people. Cast metal is thinner, stronger and grips the remaining teeth better, which means it feels less bulky and lasts longer.

Why two weeks, not two days.

A denture needs several appointments spaced days apart: impressions, a second more detailed impression, a wax try-in where you approve the tooth position and shade, the fitting, then at least one adjustment.

That last one is the one people skip to catch a flight, and it is the one that decides whether the denture gets worn or ends up in a drawer. New dentures produce sore spots. Sore spots are fixed by small adjustments in a chair. Plan roughly two weeks in Cuenca.

If teeth still need removing.

Extractions are extra, and the gum needs time to settle before a definitive denture fits properly. Ask whether you are being quoted for an immediate denture, fitted straight after extractions, or a definitive one made after healing. They are different products and the immediate one will need relining or remaking.

What nobody should promise you.

A lower full denture is harder to keep stable than an upper, because there is less ridge holding it down. Anyone telling you a lower denture will feel like natural teeth is overselling. If stability is the priority, ask about implant-retained options and expect them to cost considerably more.

Bone under a denture keeps resorbing over the years, so relines and eventual remakes are part of owning one. That is normal, not a fault.
