We regret your feedback. During your consultation, you were informed that we would perform your cleaning and tartar removal using an ultrasound and bicarbonate jet device. You then told the dentist (CD) that you were not used to this type of cleaning and had only had cleaning done with manual curettes. Curettes can be used as needed or even in subgingival scaling (deep areas and root scaling). The ultrasound device is an evolution of manual curettes and works more quietly, efficiently, and with greater comfort for the patient. It sprays jets of water along with the action of ultrasound, minimizing the damage caused to the teeth. The ultrasound emits an ultrasonic vibration to a tip that comes into contact with the tooth, and as a result, it removes all the plaque or tartar that resides on the surface of the teeth, including for smokers. The bicarbonate jet is associated with this cleaning and was performed during your appointment. During her appointment, Mrs. [Name] experienced significant sensitivity, especially during the use of the sodium bicarbonate jet, due to the presence of gingival recession. I would like to emphasize that the dentist explained how the ultrasound would be used and photographed her teeth before and after the procedure. Based on her assessment, we contacted Mrs. [Name], and our staff member invited her for a new appointment. Mrs. [Name] scheduled her new appointment for November 28th at 8:00 AM, but she did not attend. Upon analyzing the images, we found that she has stains on her anterior teeth that may be related to dental decalcification, the use of resin, and also presents a fracture of the incisal edge of her anterior tooth. Therefore, these stains cannot be removed with bicarbonate jet alone, and other aesthetic treatments in the area are indicated. Dear Fernanda, reviewing the images from your appointments, we noticed that at the beginning of your appointment you reported to the dentist that you were experiencing sensitivity in your tooth. A restoration procedure was performed, and it was found that the dental cavity was deep. Expectant treatment was carried out, meaning that a conservative approach was used to avoid root canal treatment. A desensitizing agent, a dental capping, was added. You were informed that in cases of deeper restorations, sensitivity may occur and disappear progressively, but everything would depend on how your case would evolve clinically. And that if the sensitivity did not disappear, root canal treatment would be necessary to definitively resolve the problem. This appointment was completed, and you were scheduled for a follow-up appointment, where you returned and reported that you were experiencing discomfort in the tooth. The dentist performed occlusal readjustment and polishing on the indicated tooth, requested follow-up, and continued with your treatment plan. You were rescheduled for the next appointment, but you did not attend. We tried to contact you to reschedule several times, but without success. We would like to emphasize that painful symptoms may occur after deep cavity restorations, and in cases of persistent pain, the patient is referred for root canal treatment as advised during their appointment.
