a series of emails over a couple of weeks before my arrival. I had an initial set of xrays and detailed consulation with Dr. Obando on Wednesday. He was patient and clear, showed me all of the diagnostic imaging, and didn't recommend anything that was not the best clinical choice, while being mindful of my budget. After that, the office arranged for my to get a pre-op and pre-anesthesia clearance from a nearby physician at the CIMA Hospital, and also arranged for an anesthesiologist for my procedure (this is optional, but given the amount of work being done I felt it was worth the extra charge of about $600. I'm very glad I did it.) They brought me in promptly at 10:30 Thursday morning, conducted an internal full mouth 3-D CT scan, then got to work. Six implants on top and four on the bottom. They sent me home with my daughter 3 hours later, fully equipped with all medications, the med schedule, and recovery instructions. I only used the opioid pain meds for one day as the implant sites were not really painful, just irritated after the Novocain wore off, iced my face pretty much around the clock, which was fine, and cycled between tylenol and ibuprofen for inflammation. Being toothless from Friday to Monday was not as bad as I thought it would be. Smoothies and refried beans got old fast, although the ice cream did not. So Monday I show up for the installation of my immediate load provisional arches and Karen (a wonderful office manager) says "Bruce, your appointment is tomorrow, not today!" That was totally my mistake -- I was loopy after the sedation and my kid wasn't paying close attention. Dr. Obando happened to come out to reception, learned of the problem, and checked with the dental lab -- my arches were ready and could be delivered in an hour, so he made room on his schedule to set me up. The installation went great -- not painful, pretty quick, and I almost got teary when they showed me the results. Kind of a miracle. I will return in April 2024 for the permanent Zirconium arches that will outlive me. That will be nice, but seeing the wonderful people at Nova Dental again is what I am really looking forward to next year! UPDATE: My permanent all-on-6 and all-on-4 are locked down and loaded. I am amazed that this procedure, which I had been avoiding for years, has really been one of the most positive experiences of my life. Dr. Obando's work is so incredibly skillful -- the fabrication and fitting of my permanent Zirconium arches was a breeze. I should add that a a few weeks after getting my temporaries I broke the bottom arch. This happens and I bear some responsibility for being a little too aggressive chewing with the acrylics. Dr. Obando ordered a new bottom from the lab, had it shipped to Rhode Island, and consulted on the telephone with my local dentist while it was being installed in my mouth. And Nova Dental did not charge me for the replacement -- wow. I feel so lucky to have met Dr. Obando and his staff. Added before and after pics -- the old me who didn't smile and the new me with my favorite dentist!

I both had extensive dental work over multiple trips (from US), against the advice of family, friends & doctors. So, I THOROUGHLY researched Costa Rican dentists before selecting Dr. Obando/Nova. Now, some of those previous naysayers plan to come to Nova themselves. I also got Botox & Ellansé biostim filler from Dr. Truque during my most recent visit. She really took her time, was very thorough & considerate of my comfort. It was the best injectable experience I’ve ever had (zero pain, only 1 tiny bruise), with the BEST RESULTS & the special price offered was a GREAT value!

began with their professionalism, the quality and skill of their dental services to their efficiency, flexibility and wanting to make sure we felt comfortable and satisfied. In addition they provided a driver who picked us up at the airport, dropped us at our hotel, picked us up for our appointments, dropping us back off and finally a last trip to the airport as part of their service at no charge. We saved a few thousand dollars in the procedures we had done with basic X-rays, cleaning, crowns, etc. We can’t recommend them highly enough and when the time comes we will be returning with gratitude for the exceptional care and service we received. crowns and an implant, and it has always been a great experience, aside from the fact that nobody needs or likes having dental issues. I live in the US, and have no dental insurance. I do cleanings in the US, but everything else in Costa Rica at Nova Dental. Even with the travel and lodging, I save thousands of dollars over prices in the US. It's a no-brainer. I simply email and tell them what I need (attach x-rays if I have them), and we schedule the appointments that way. They are really accommodating, and it's comforting to know that I will be treated well and with expertise on arrival. The practice is in a very nice area of San Jose, and I stay in an AirBnB where I can walk to appointments. Be confident that you will get the best service and treatment here. I can't recommend them enough!

information about my situation along with photos of my teeth. Replied with what they expect will be required (based on my email and photos), the duration (how many visits over a number of days to install crowns), and the price. Offered up potential housing and transportation (Uber is everywhere so I found this the easiest transport option) services. When I arrived at my first visit (Monday), complete paperwork, take X-rays and discussed options with Dr Chavarria to form a plan based on the options are available for me. Dr Chavarria was upfront with my options, didn’t push for a full replacement as I had several viable teeth which didn’t require any crown. Once a plan was formulated, he went to work. The technology to scan my mouth is cutting edge (none of those great tasting molds). Visit 2 (Wednesday) consisted of validating the fit of the new crowns and visit 3 (Friday) was installation of the crowns. The clinic is ultra clean (photos on the web and by other reviews are spot on) and centrally located in a strip mall just outside of San Jose center. Staff was very polite and English is spoken (Dr Chavarria is top notch with the support staff having varying capabilities). For my situation, cost to fly down from the US was justified as the cost of the local dentist option was astronomical.

y US dentist were simply unnecessary. For example, the US dentist said I needed a $1,200 "deep cleaning", followed by 3 month cleanings. Dr. Chavarria showed how the gaps between my teeth and gums were much smaller than such an expensive treatment would require, and that in fact my gums were a healthy pink color. He said his patients report this type of "upselling" of unneeded procedures by US dentists all the time. I had one tooth with some faint hairline cracks that the Florida dentist said could "shatter anytime", and that therefore I should spend $2,300 with him for a crown. Dr. Chavarria said he would be happy to do the crown - for about $400 (I forget the exact number) - if it were necessary, but in his experience teeth can function perfectly well for many years or decades in my condition. He said a more conservative approach would both save me a ton of money and avoid the damage to the tooth inflicted by such an aggressive procedure. I should also mention the office was super clean and everyone work masks. It has state of the art equipment and incredibly friendly and patient staff. We will be returning here (and to enjoy the sites) for years to come.

. Which even after braces wouldn't have corrected it. Genetically had oral issues. I'm returning again soon to have to baby teeth replaced with implants and bleaching. I don't expect any less of quality this time.

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard that was directly across the street from the office. The office was in a strip mall with two pharmacies to get my meds. On four occasions, I had 1 implant done in the states by two different oral surgeons. On my visit to Nova, I had 6 done at once. I had less pain and swelling with the 6 than I did in the states with any of my procedures. The cost at Nova was the icing on the cake, the same work in the US would have been more than $20k higher and based on prior experience would not have been done at the same high quality level as it was at Nova. I cannot recommend them enough.
