I took advantage of my vacation in Costa Rica to have cosmetic surgery at the same time, both at a very good price. Finding the clinic's location is very easy, and access is convenient. After getting frustrated with dentists in America, I decided to search for oral surgeons overseas that could meet my dental needs, had good reputation and could offer first-world quality services. Fortunately I've found Dr. Jairo Vargas, someone with excellent credentials, great reviews and who was accessible and promptly answered all my questions in English since first contact. I've had bone graft, implants and crowns done by him for the last 4 years and I am extremely satisfied with his work and his professionalism. Besides all that, he's a cool guy, humble and down-to-earth person as opposite to those arrogant and snobbish dentists in Central Florida who think they are gods to talk down patients--a bunch of scam artists. So far, we've had only great experience with Dr. Vargas and his staff: Laura, Raquel and Katia (guardian angels). I couldn't forget to mention Don Oscar, who drove us everywhere whenever we needed to go for x-rays, shopping mall, hotel and airport. It may be overwhelming for us "Gringos" go abroad to a different country, deal with a different language, food and so forth... but I wish I could've met Dr. Vargas before--it would've saved me a lot of money, time and aggravation.

After much research, I chose Dr Vargas and Dr Hernandez to do the extensive work that I needed to restore my mouth. I traveled from Florida to Costa Rica 07/17 as the cost was just too much back home. After emailing my panoramic X-rays to Dr Vargas, he came up with a great plan and a very fair price quote. We planned a date to begin and I booked the flight and used a recommended hotel within walking distance of the dental office. I was picked up at the airport and immediately brought to the dental office and the work began. The office is very clean and sanitary and all precautions are made to keep a sterile environment. I've been in dental offices in the USA that are filthy and I was impressed how clean it was here. All of the equipment is up to date and the same as what is current in the USA. I had 18 teeth removed and 10 titanium implants (manufactured in the USA) inserted all on a monday morning and there was almost no pain as Dr. Vargas is fantastic with pain management. My mouth was generally sore for about a week afterwards but there was much less pain than even 1 toothache gives you. The staff all spoke very good English and put me at ease. After the extractions and the implants were inserted, I was taken to Dr. Hernandez who does the prosthesis. He is like an artist who strives for perfection in appearance and the fit of your new teeth. He made sure my temporary dentures were a perfect fit before the week was out and I returned home to Florida to heal. It would take 2 trips as my uppers were completely replaced with implants. As for the lowers, Dr Vargas recommended we leave the front 6 in place but replaced the others and I had 4 implants placed in my lower jaw. There is a 4 month healing period for the implants to fuse into the bone so I returned this past week 12/03/17. Again, the work began on a Monday morning as Dr. Vargas did a deep cleaning on my remaining teeth and exposed the upper implants. Once again, no pain as he is just amazing with his pain management. And after Dr. Vargas was finished, I was taken by Oscar the driver to Dr. Hernandez office to get fitted for my permanent teeth. Dr. Hernandez talked to me and we discussed the color of the new teeth so they would compliment the remaining lower teeth in my mouth. I wanted nice white teeth but not so white that they looked like they belonged on a teenager. We found a really nice color that fit my age and looked great. Dr. Hernandez takes so much time and is so precise that you just know the finished product is going to be good before it is even done. I developed full confidence and just let it happen. At the end of the week, I returned to Dr. Hernandez office and the fit was perfect and the new permanent teeth look great. I can't say enough great things about the care I received from Dr. Vargas, Dr. Hernandez and their staff. I really had reservations about traveling to Costa Rica to get such extensive dental work done but if you go with these professionals you will be glad that you did. I hope my posting is not too long winded but if you're like me, you want to know what to expect when you're taking a leap of faith and traveling far from home for dental work. And one final sincere thank you to both doctors, Raquel and Laura, and Oscar my driver. They are all just very nice and sincere people that want to give you the best possible care. The people in Costa Rica are very warm and caring.They have given me back my smile and laugh and a healthy mouth. I can eat all foods again with confidence and it's worth every penny. Many thanks !!!! Mike 11/17/2020 Update: Almost 3 years later and zero issues. The implants have made it easy to smile and laugh again. It takes about 2-3 weeks to completely regain normal speech as your mouth has a short adjustment period to the implants. Chewing food becomes normal again and eating all foods is back on the menu with no worries. It's like having your normal teeth back again and you brush normally or use a waterpik to clean your teeth. Great doctor's, great care and quality results. I'd do it again for sure !

I had a great experience with Dr Vargas. I had previously had an implant put in when I was in Chile but could not get the crown in the United States because the European company that made the implant did not service the US. Dr Vargas was able to provide me with a crown. They have a very modern and professional office. He took the measurements on Monday for the crown which was ready for Friday installment. I'm very pleased with my crown and would highly recommend Dr Vargas.
