I had an emergency with my devitalized tooth that broke, and I was promptly attended to by Dr. Catarina and her assistant Alice. Both were very attentive, and the restoration was perfect, plus they were very quick. I was really lucky, and I will definitely return.

I unfortunately had a dental emergency while in Portugal and was looking for 24/hr dentists. Bessa unfortunately did not respond to me and waited until their clinic opened at 8am. They got me in once they opened. Dentist was clean and orderly. They only had time to do half a root canal and wouldn’t be able to do the other part of the procedure. The dentist only prescribed me three days of antibiotics, I did question if that would be enough and I was told that it would be. Unfortunately my concerns were correct and three days did not meet the needs of the infection. They phoned me and I explained my situation and I was no longer in Porto I asked them to send me my X-rays that they took and asked for an updated prescription and was told they couldn’t do either for me. The lady on the phone became argumentative and told me to visit another dentist in my area which I would then be charged again for a consultation fee. Very disappointed with the end outcome.

Dear Kaela, Following your comment, we took the time to send you an email explaining the situation exactly. Due to the sensitive nature of your comment, we must state the following: We received your call on September 15, 2025, at 6:04 AM, during the shift change of the colleague who was on duty. As soon as the clinic opened to the public, at 8:00 AM, you were immediately offered an appointment. During the consultation, inflammation was detected in tooth 1.7 (second upper right molar). As you informed us that you are allergic to penicillin, an alternative antibiotic (Azithromycin 500mg) was prescribed. This package contains 3 tablets, and this antibiotic has a long half-life in the body, so it is not appropriate to take it for extended periods. Knowing in advance that you would be returning to Canada on September 21st and would be under the effects of the medication, we explained that ideally, you should start and finish the endodontic treatment in your country of origin. Nevertheless, we assure you of normal clinical follow-up, contacting you on September 16th and 17th for follow-up and assessment of your situation. Regarding clinical documentation, we normally send panoramic radiographs by email, which incurs a cost outside of the consultation. Individual tooth radiographs are free of charge, although we do not have access to them for sending. Medical prescriptions can be delivered on paper, email, or SMS. For foreign patients, they are delivered personally on paper. We find it strange that a comment was made about the prescription, as we cannot issue reimbursed prescriptions in any other way, especially for foreign patients, other than on paper, unless the patient has a National Health Service (SNS) card. Above all, we want to apologize if you felt there was any communication failure on our part. Although our team has professionals who speak different languages, which translates into several positive comments in this regard, we believe that in this particular situation this may have been a difficulty. We always value the trust you place in us and regret not having been able to fully meet your expectations. Our goal is always to provide the best possible clinical and human support. All the staff were professional and kind, facilities are excellent. I was seen by a very good young dentist called Juan who took his time diagnosing the problem. Despite this, they assured me that I had infections in both teeth and insisted that I needed root canals on both. In a state of urgency and weakness, I accepted. They only placed a “temporary filling” on the upper tooth, nothing on the lower one, and told me they had no time to complete the root canals. I was charged €150 and prescribed antibiotics. In reality, antibiotics alone would have been enough. When I returned to France, my dentist confirmed that I only had an infection in the lower incisor, which was spreading to the upper one. The only tooth that truly required treatment was the lower one. But it was too late: since the upper tooth had already been drilled, it had to be devitalized and will likely need a crown in the long run, as it is now weakened. I contacted the clinic to request a copy of the X-ray, but they never sent it to me. I do not recommend this clinic — it is unsafe and potentially harmful to patients. —— I went to this dental clinic shortly after arriving in Portugal for family reasons, due to severe tooth pain. It was Sunday and I sought emergency care, but unfortunately I made a mistake in choosing this clinic. I had pain in an upper and a lower incisor. Dear Daphnée, We sincerely apologize for only now responding to your comment, but it required a comprehensive and exhaustive evaluation before we could do so. In reality, Daphnée presented for an emergency visit on Sunday, April 27th, complaining of pain upon touching her upper right tooth and sporadic pain in her lower right tooth. As the upper tooth was more symptomatic, the colleague who initiated the procedure performed what is called a pulpectomy. We emphasize that the dentist who examined her is an experienced professional who easily made the diagnosis. The situation, given that she was returning to France, was also resolved with medication prescribed by him, in order to promptly and minimize pain, allowing her to continue the entire process. The following day, April 28th, we attempted to contact you by phone without any success. It greatly surprises us that, almost six months later, you are making a criticism questioning, without any real basis, the professionalism and quality of our clinic. We carefully checked our system to see if there was any request for your X-ray, but nothing was found. However, we believe there may have been some kind of contact regarding this matter, and the information was lost. On September 29th, we sent the much-requested orthopantomography, which, although sent after your comment, already had a criticism regarding its presentation. We perfectly understand that, when you went to a dentist in your area, they were surprised by the granuloma you had on your lower jaw, and that, despite everything, it wasn't resolved during our consultation. For general information, we must state that this type of situation, if it exists, is a chronic condition that is often only detected radiographically, and we took care to point it out and advise you to treat it. We are certain that the way you phrased this comment doesn't make sense, given the time elapsed since your emergency appointment and also the care we took in contacting you, without receiving an immediate response. Life is made of moments, and often, in health matters, we cannot postpone the inevitable for fear of the situation worsening; it's always easier to blame others. In any case, as we always do in these situations, we will send a personal email for any questions you may have. If needed, we can send a copy of the invoice, which was certainly sent by email. The panoramic x-ray cost €45, the dental procedure €75, and the temporary dressing (IRM) €10, totaling €130, not €150 as mentioned in your comment. Above all, we are serious and professional. It's necessary to have someone friendly at the entrance to greet you with a simple "good afternoon," but today at 3:30 PM the receptionist wasn't in a good mood, she just had a sour face and didn't even bother to greet you – simply a complete lack of manners.

That same evening, at 10:00 PM, I was seen by Mr. Rui Amaral and Ms. Renata Massa, both of whom were equally attentive and understanding. After the evaluation, I was advised to have an X-ray to better understand the overall condition of my mouth. Meanwhile, we discovered the problem with the tooth that was causing the pain, and I was informed and they explained in detail the condition of the tooth and the rest of my mouth. I was informed about what needed to be done to resolve the problem and the respective cost.
