Dear Mr. Wojciech, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We want parents to be fully clear about the diagnosis and proposed treatment methods, so we would like to provide additional clarification. We regret that you chose not to share the medical records from the visit, which formed the basis for the accusations (in the initial comment) and the negative evaluation of our work. This is your choice and right. However, we would like to emphasize that early-stage carious lesions are usually invisible to parents and may resemble healthy teeth. They can only be identified in an office setting – after cleaning and drying the teeth, under appropriate lighting, and using magnification (dental loupes). I would like to remind you that during the visit, you were offered three treatment options (also provided in writing): 1. a course of in-depth fluoride treatment, 2. treatment under inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide, 3. a follow-up after two months with home hygiene only. The first option was proposed due to my daughter's young age and was intended to slow the progression of caries long enough to allow her to gradually adapt, become comfortable with the dentist, and develop a tolerance (naturally, as a result of growing up) to the stress and discomfort associated with treatment. Early treatment of minor caries is faster, technically simpler, and less expensive than more advanced treatments, which require local anesthesia, require longer procedures, and generate significantly higher costs. The deep fluoride products used in our clinic (other than fluoride varnishes used prophylactically) are certified and approved for use in the youngest children. They have proven clinical effectiveness and are safe even in intensive cycles. The proposed inhalation sedation (nitrous oxide) was not a mandatory procedure, but rather a presented option – commonly used and considered safe for the youngest patients, whose cooperation during treatment can be limited. The latter option did not generate any additional costs. All observations and recommendations were based on the current clinical status of my daughter's teeth, which can change very dynamically in pediatric dentistry – within a few months, early carious lesions usually develop into cavities requiring treatment. Dear Joanna, We are very sorry that the visits to our clinic caused negative emotions in you and your child. After analyzing the whole case, talking to the staff and you, I conclude that from a medical point of view the right decisions were made, but we did not improve our communication. We were not able to illustrate the situation from a medical point of view in such a way that it would not be perceived as "scare". We will make even more effort to learn to speak to each patient in one language. We base the choice of treatment method on a thorough analysis of the condition of the teeth, age and emotional readiness of the child. After several attempts at treatment, a proposal was made to treat in a ZO. We only propose general anesthesia when we consider it to be the safest and least burdensome for the young patient - especially in the case of extensive treatment. For example: treatment of 8 teeth under nitrous oxide sedation with local anesthesia may be more burdensome for the child's body, and the total cost of treatment under general anesthesia often turns out to be lower than the sum of individual, multiple visits. The anesthesiologist qualifies the child for the procedure under general anesthesia based on a thorough analysis of the health condition. The anesthesiologist will answer all your questions, including the issue of safe performance of the procedure in relation to the specific patient. We discuss each dental treatment plan with parents and - in an adapted way - also with children. We pay special attention to the choice of words so as not to arouse anxiety in the young patient. The final decisions always belong to the parent, and it is our duty to honestly and empathetically present possible courses of action. At Hi5 Dental, we never perform procedures that could harm the child - even if such a suggestion was made by the guardian. We care about the quality of the services provided, and performing quality treatment without achieving cooperation with the child is impossible. We take responsibility for the course of treatment and provide a guarantee for the procedures performed. I contacted you by phone to explain the situation and offer further support and adaptation visits. This offer is still valid - I am open to talking if you decide to continue treatment with us.
