to swell, accompanied by severe tooth pain. I went to a dentist. Nothing could be done; all treatments were prohibited due to the pandemic. My daughter then called her dentist friend, who suggested her "best dentist friend," Dr. Jorge Cuevas, the director of the "D7" clinic. He treated me and whispered, "What a shame, I studied to save teeth, but I have to extract it." And so it was. Some time later, due to a car accident, I lost two upper teeth. I visited Dr. Cuevas again, who, much to my dismay, revealed after taking a scan that I didn't have enough roots, so implants were absolutely necessary. I was curious, because even though there were no roots, he couldn't explain how those little pieces were supposed to stay in place in my mouth. He got annoyed and replied that the specialist coming from Santiago for my case would explain it to me. This specialist, who is also the Dean of the dental program, said, "He trains the best future specialists in dentistry in this country... dun dun dun." I left after completing two root canals, a general cleaning, and a cavity filling, all of which had been arranged and paid for by the various professionals at "D7." But, intrigued and stubborn as I am, I decided to seek a second opinion. I went to the Torres de Flamenco Clinic, fourth floor, asked for a quote, and was seen by Dr. Fernanda Galaz, who assured me that "first of all, I need a cleaning and to treat a very visible cavity." I explained that less than five days ago I had all that done by her neighbors in D7, and that I only wanted an estimate for the broken teeth. Annoyed, she added, "Understand, ma'am, I can't refer you to a professional with dirty teeth." I scheduled another appointment and went to pay at the register. To my surprise, I had to pay for "emergency care." I reiterated that it wasn't an emergency, just an estimate. They corrected the "error" by giving me the next available appointment, which, by the way, I didn't attend. Finally, I visited another clinic, DOCTOR FRANCIS MELO. Yes, in all caps, underlined, and in red. The first thing he said to me was, "I see some small pieces. I think we can save these teeth without implants. Let's get a scan." I told him I had the scan from the other clinic, and he replied enthusiastically, "Even better, that way you don't spend so much." The surprise was mine: the scan contained nothing... absolutely NO INFORMATION! I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!! A professional who genuinely wanted to help me, who genuinely wanted me to avoid unnecessary expenses, a different kind of professional... finally, AN HONEST PROFESSIONAL!! I wondered, "Wow, DO THEY EXIST?" Of course they do. In the new scan Dr. Francis Melo took, I not only had roots holding the small pieces of tooth, but I had ENORMOUS ROOTS supporting them. Therefore, my teeth were saved by this professional. At this clinic, I not only found honesty, but also excellent care and prices that fit any patient's budget. I'm sharing my experience with you so you understand the importance of a second, or in this case, a third opinion. And I haven't even told you about the ENORMOUS, I MEAN ENORMOUS, difference in the prices charged by the professionals at the Francis Melo Clinic compared to other clinics. Excellent service. When I started, it was estimated that the breakers would take about two years, but it's only been 15 months and they're about to be removed completely.
