Crowns and veneers in Ecuador: zirconia, E-max and composite compared

Three materials, three prices, three different jobs. What zirconia, E-max and composite are actually for.

Cosmetic dentistry in Ecuador is usually a choice between three materials. They are not interchangeable, and the most expensive is not the best for every tooth.

The published fees.

Composite, the cheapest and the shortest-lived.

Composite is resin shaped onto the tooth by the dentist in one appointment. No laboratory, no waiting, and often little or no enamel removed, which means it is close to reversible.

It also stains, chips at the biting edge, and generally needs repair or replacement years sooner than porcelain. At $100 to $150 per tooth it is the cheapest visible change available, and the result depends more on the operator's hand than any other treatment on this list. Ask to see the clinic's own photographs of composite work, not stock images.

E-max, for front teeth.

E-max is lithium disilicate, a ceramic that passes light in a way that reads as natural enamel. That makes it the usual answer for a visible front tooth where an opaque crown would look dead.

It is strong, but it is better suited to the front of the mouth than to a molar carrying heavy load.

Zirconia, for load.

Zirconia is harder. It goes on back teeth, on implants, and anywhere strength matters more than translucency. Its hardness cuts both ways: it resists fracture well, and over years it can wear the natural tooth biting against it.

If you grind your teeth, say so before any of this is decided. Grinding changes the right answer and usually adds a night guard.

The option people skip.

An inlay or onlay at $300 to $400 sits between a filling and a crown. It repairs a large cavity while removing far less of the natural tooth than a crown does. Where an onlay will do the job, it is the more conservative choice, and over twenty years keeping your own tooth structure matters more than the difference in fee does today.

Plan it before anyone drills.

Digital smile design is published at $25 to $50. It models the proposed result before any irreversible work starts. For someone flying in for a cosmetic case, that is the cheapest hour you will spend, because a veneer case you dislike is expensive and slow to undo.

Where these numbers come from.

Every figure on this page is the fee published by INNOVATIVE DENTAL, the one clinic we list in Cuenca. It is a featured partner, which describes a selection process and a commercial relationship, not a clinical endorsement.

We list one clinic in Ecuador, so this is not a market survey and nothing here ranks one clinic against another. Prices can change. Confirm your own case with the clinic before you book flights.

Prices are indicative; only a clinic's written quote applies to you. See how we source prices. SmileJet is an information service, not a healthcare provider, and nothing here is medical advice.
