Field notes from Philippines

We've toured the clinics, priced the procedures, and watched the waiting rooms. Here's what we found on the ground โ€” and what we'd tell a friend considering the trip.

The Philippines is Southeast Asia's most English-fluent dental tourism destination, serving patients from the US, Canada, Australia, and the Filipino diaspora worldwide with savings of 60-75% versus home-country prices. SmileJet has verified 76 clinics across the Philippines' main cities: Makati (26 clinics), Manila (21), Quezon City (15), Cebu City (11), and Davao City (3). Partner clinics maintain a 4.7 average rating across 4,659 patient reviews. Leading clinics include Affinity Dental Clinics (Makati & Cebu), Taupa Dental Clinic in Quezon City, Crown Royale Dental Center in Manila, and ACE Dental Care in Makati. Filipino dentists train at the University of the Philippines College of Dentistry, Centro Escolar University, or University of the East, with many completing US post-graduate specialty training. English is the primary language of dental practice and medical education, making the Philippines uniquely comfortable for American patients. [1]

Where the clinics are

Most of the quality concentration in Philippines sits in two to three cities. Each has its own character, its own airport, and its own mix of specialisms. Start by picking the city.

Dra Mariel was very nice and explained all my options very well. Very lighthanded and little pain only. Sheโ€™s very good at what she does. Staff are also very nice, they make you feel comfortable and taken cared of. Clinic is new, very clean, and well maintai...

What's different about dentistry here

The training

Senior clinicians at our Philippines-partner clinics typically hold international fellowships (ICOI, Pankey, Kois) alongside domestic credentials. We verify each one, and link them on every clinic dossier.

The equipment

CBCT, digital impressions, and in-house milling are standard at our top-tier clinics. Materials are imported โ€” Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Ivoclar. Our audits photograph lot numbers and expiration dates.

The logistics

English-speaking coordinators, airport pickup, hotel coordination, and post-op follow-up via WhatsApp are table stakes. If a clinic doesn't do these things, they don't make our list.

The follow-up

We keep touch for 12 months post-treatment. Any clinic that drops communication with a patient for more than 72 hours gets flagged and eventually dropped. Patient support is the one non-negotiable.

Frequently asked

01

Is dental work in the Philippines safe?

Yes. Filipino dentistry is regulated by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board of Dentistry, with strict licensing requirements. SmileJet partner clinics hold a 4.7 average rating across 4,600+ reviews. Many Filipino dentists trained in the US (given strong US-Philippines educational ties) and clinics use internationally-recognised implant brands and materials.
02

How much can I save on dental work in the Philippines?

Typical savings versus US, Australian, or UK prices are 60-75%. Single dental implants cost USD $700-$1,300 in the Philippines vs USD $3,500 US. Porcelain veneers range USD $250-$500 per tooth vs USD $1,800. Zirconia crowns USD $200-$400. All-on-4 full-arch implants run USD $7,000-$11,000 per arch vs USD $25,000 in the US.
03

Which Philippine city is best for dental tourism?

Metro Manila's Makati (26 clinics) is the premier choice for business-class dental travellers and expats, with the highest concentration of international-standard clinics. Manila centre (21) and Quezon City (15) serve the broader Metro Manila market. Cebu City (11) is popular with leisure travellers combining dental work with beach holidays to Cebu, Mactan, or Bohol. Davao City (3) serves southern Philippines.
04

Why is English fluency so strong in Philippine dental clinics?

English is an official language of the Philippines and the primary language of instruction in medical, dental, and higher education. Virtually all Filipino dentists conduct clinical practice in English. Treatment plans, consent forms, X-ray reports, and aftercare instructions are produced in English by default โ€” not as a translation for international patients but as the working language of the profession.
05

Do I need a visa to visit the Philippines for dental treatment?

Most nationalities including US, Canadian, EU, UK, Australian, and New Zealand passport holders can enter the Philippines visa-free for stays of up to 30 days (extendable). Some nationalities (including ASEAN citizens) get 14-30 day visa-free entry. No special medical visa required. Passport must be valid 6+ months beyond entry.
06

How long do I need to stay in the Philippines for dental work?

Veneers and crowns typically need 5-7 days across 2-3 appointments. Dental implants require 7-10 days for placement, with a return visit 4-6 months later for the final crown. Teeth whitening and cleaning are same-day. All-on-4 full-arch implants take 10-14 days. Many Filipino-American patients time dental work to coincide with family visits.
07

What implant brands are used by Philippine clinics?

Top Philippine clinics use Straumann (Switzerland), Nobel Biocare (Sweden), Osstem (South Korea), Dentium (Korea), MIS (Israel), and BioHorizons (US) for implants. IPS E.max (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Zirconia BruxZir are standard for crowns and veneers. Every clinic provides material certificates with treatment.
08

Is the Philippines safe for dental tourism?

Yes, in major tourist and business districts. Metro Manila's Makati, BGC (Bonifacio Global City), and Ortigas are safe for international visitors. Cebu City's IT Park and Ayala Center areas are well-policed. Use reputable transportation (Grab is widely used) and keep valuables secure. Avoid isolated areas at night. Private hospitals and clinics meet international standards.
09

What's the best time of year to visit the Philippines?

December to May is the dry season โ€” ideal for combining dental work with beach travel. Peak tourist season is December-March. Avoid typhoon season (June-October). Metro Manila is accessible year-round but the weather is more pleasant in cooler months (December-February). Cebu's climate is slightly more consistent year-round.
