We've toured the clinics, priced the procedures, and watched the waiting rooms. Here's what we found on the ground — and what we'd tell a friend considering the trip.

Avg. clinic rating

Brazil is a leading Latin American destination for cosmetic dentistry, particularly porcelain veneers, Hollywood-smile makeovers, and aesthetic bonding. SmileJet has verified 25 clinics across Rio de Janeiro (16 clinics) and São Paulo (9 clinics), with a collective 4.7 average rating across 2,260 patient reviews. Top-rated clinics include Clínica Rothier, Dental Clinic Botafogo, and Clínica Sorrio in Rio, and Manhattan Clinic in São Paulo. Brazilian dentists receive internationally recognised training — the University of São Paulo is consistently ranked among the world's top dental schools — and leading clinics pair that expertise with Brazil's distinctive aesthetic sensibility. International patients from the US, Canada, Europe, and neighbouring South American countries save 40-60% on cosmetic and restorative work compared to home-country prices, while enjoying the cultural and coastal attractions of one of South America's most vibrant countries. What's different about dentistry here

The training

Senior clinicians at our Brazil-partner clinics typically hold international fellowships (ICOI, Pankey, Kois) alongside domestic credentials. We verify each one, and link them on every clinic dossier.

The equipment

CBCT, digital impressions, and in-house milling are standard at our top-tier clinics. Materials are imported — Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Ivoclar. Our audits photograph lot numbers and expiration dates.

The logistics

English-speaking coordinators, airport pickup, hotel coordination, and post-op follow-up via WhatsApp are table stakes. If a clinic doesn't do these things, they don't make our list.

The follow-up

We keep touch for 12 months post-treatment. Any clinic that drops communication with a patient for more than 72 hours gets flagged and eventually dropped. Patient support is the one non-negotiable.

Frequently asked

01

Is dental work in Brazil safe?

Yes. Brazilian dentistry is regulated by the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO) with strict licensing and continuing education requirements. SmileJet partner clinics hold a 4.7 average rating across 2,260+ reviews and use internationally recognised implant brands such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare, and Neodent. Many top dentists hold additional certifications from US, European, or Brazilian post-graduate programmes.
02

How much can I save on dental work in Brazil?

Cosmetic and restorative work in Brazil typically costs 40-60% less than US or Canadian prices. Porcelain veneers run R$2,000-$4,000 (USD $400-$800) compared to USD $1,500-$2,500 in the US. Dental implants range R$4,500-$8,000 (USD $900-$1,600) vs USD $3,500-$5,500 in North America. All-on-4 full-arch work costs USD $10,000-$14,000 compared to USD $25,000-$30,000 at home.
03

Which city in Brazil is best for dental tourism?

Rio de Janeiro has the largest selection with 16 verified clinics, concentrated in upscale neighbourhoods like Ipanema, Leblon, Copacabana, and Botafogo. São Paulo has 9 clinics and is home to the University of São Paulo, one of the world's top dental schools. Rio is preferred by leisure-focused patients; São Paulo suits those who prioritise a major medical hub with easier international flight connections.
04

What is the Hollywood smile treatment popular in Brazil?

The 'Hollywood smile' is a full-mouth cosmetic makeover using 8-20 porcelain veneers across the upper and lower front teeth to create a uniformly white, perfectly aligned smile. Brazilian dentists have become globally recognised for this technique, which combines advanced ceramic veneers (e.max, BruxZir Esthetic) with distinctive Brazilian aesthetic design. A full set typically costs USD $6,000-$12,000.
05

Do I need a visa to visit Brazil for dental treatment?

Most nationalities — including EU, UK, Australian, and New Zealand passport holders — can enter Brazil visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. US and Canadian citizens require an e-visa as of April 2025, which can be applied for online. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond entry date.
06

How long do I need to stay in Brazil for dental work?

Porcelain veneers typically require 7-10 days across 2-3 appointments for temporaries, preparation, and fitting. Dental implants need 10-14 days for placement and sutures, with a return visit 4-6 months later for the final crown. Teeth whitening and cleaning are same-day procedures. Full Hollywood smile makeovers usually require 10-14 days.
07

Do Brazilian dentists speak English?

SmileJet partner clinics in Brazil have English-speaking dentists and patient coordinators. Many dentists in Rio and São Paulo also speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently. Treatment plans, consent forms, and aftercare instructions are provided in English for international patients.
08

What is the best time of year to visit Brazil for dental treatment?

May to September (Brazil's dry winter) offers comfortable temperatures, fewer crowds, and lower hotel prices. December to February is peak summer and Carnival season — beautiful weather but busy and expensive. Dental clinics operate year-round; choose travel dates based on weather preference and whether you want to experience Carnival (February/March).
09

What implant brands are used in Brazilian clinics?

Leading Brazilian clinics use Straumann (Switzerland), Nobel Biocare (Sweden), and Neodent — a premium Brazilian implant brand owned by Straumann Group and used worldwide. IPS E.max (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Zirconia BruxZir are standard for veneers and crowns. Every clinic provides material certificates with treatment.
