National Dental Clinic

I’m extremely disappointed with the level of care I experienced today. I attended for my routine 6-monthly clean and was also due to see the dentist, as it had been 12 months. During the appointment, the bond on my retainer needed to be repaired. In the process, something unexpectedly came loose and caused water to spray forcefully across my face. It was quite a shocking and distressing experience. I was told, “sorry, sometimes the cap can come off,” however the treatment continued immediately despite me being visibly shaken. There was no pause to check on my wellbeing or to explain what had happened in a reassuring way. I was then advised that the dentist was running late and that, if the hygienist was satisfied, there was no need for the dentist to see me at all. This was surprising given the clinic had only just opened, and particularly concerning given what had just occurred. While I did receive brief apologies, there was no genuine effort to acknowledge the impact of the experience, discuss what had happened, or check whether I was okay before I left. An apology without follow-up or care feels quite hollow. Unfortunately, this experience has left me feeling unsupported and I will not be returning. I was also told that someone would call me to follow up which has not occurred.

My experience was very calming and reassuring. After being so long since being in the dentist. I felt very anxious and I was constantly reassured and made to feel in control and everything would go at my pace
