I took my Granddaughter in with an infected ingrown toe nails. There were only about 5 waiting to be seen. We got told to come to city doctors as we would get seen earlier. They said it would bec7 hours waiting. Get to city doctors and they are cramped with patients. We have been waiting about 2 hrs already. We see the n7rse who tells us that we will be given antibiotics and maybe referred to hospital podiatrist either that we search for one. Why on earth could the hospital not seen us or tell us all this crap. Apparently docs are not permitted to take the ingrown part out. Why not?? We had a doc do her other ingrown nail. Health system stinks

Though short staffed and visibly tired the Nurses and Drs are kind and gentle and know what they are doing. My recent unexpected stay i was treated well.

I'd like to Thank Jenny at the Reception and the Nurse at Gastroenterology department for taking their time and listening to my issues about an appointment. Given tge current situations in the Public Health System, it is honestly so refreshing to have staff who are probaly overworked listen to you and explain tge delays.

I'm not actually even giving this death facility 1 star it is only a quarter star as far as I am concerned. Palmerston north hospital is where people go to die and if you actually have something wrong with you they will send you home to die. I recently was sent to the emergency department by my general practitioner and 2 other senior staff practitioners. Call was made to ED to inform them of my impending arrival, signed in and after 2 hours of waiting still had not been triaged so I went to the counter and asked if I might be seen any time soon which I was told to wait my turn.... Not a good thing to say to someone with anger and anxiety issues. So I then went over to the X-ray dept as I had a note for an X-ray to which the ED Said that was only applicable to them and not me. At this point I understood that I was of no concern to the emergency department and left.... Needless to say I am now about to lose my foot as a result of no medical staff being interested in doing their job.

I was seen 45 minutes after I arrived. I had broken 3 bones in my ankle and was concerned I would be up there for hours in pain. Was completely blown away at how fast I was cared for. The ladies in Ed who had to manipulate my ankle 3 times were lovely and gave me great advice. Well done for the care I received on the 3/10/24

Not about the hospital itself, but the old bald man in the ticket office was so incredibly rude. I wasn’t sure where to pay after hours so I went to the gate thinking maybe it might’ve been free after a certain time, it wasn’t which is fine, but when I asked through the speaker at the gate I was yelled at by the man and spoke to me like I was a child, all for $2… so so rude especially working at a hospital when you have no idea what people are going through, definitely a lot more on my mind that a $2 parking ticket.

Absolutey disgusting service. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. Badly managed. Had an appointment 2nd December at 1.15 confirmed by letter later confirmed by text. Had to drive 50kms to get there only to be told surgeon had taken day off and there was nothing on their computer yo state he had an appointment even though we had the letter and confirmation from text.

Approach this place with intention, as it serves as a powerful reminder of life's fragility. Ensure you're emotionally and mentally prepared before your visit. While there's a long wait time(8 hours minimum)it's all part of the experience. The service could certainly use some improvement.
