Why Choose Opća bolnica Zadar Polyclinic in Zadar?

Opća bolnica Zadar Polyclinic is the public hospital outpatient facility serving North Dalmatia, Croatia, located at Bože Peričića 5 in central Zadar. Operated under Croatia's national health system (HZZO), the polyclinic provides specialist dental and medical consultations covering general dentistry, oral surgery, and preventive care for insured Croatian patients.

Opća bolnica Zadar Polyclinic is the specialist outpatient facility of the General Hospital Zadar (Opća bolnica Zadar), located at Bože Peričića 5 in central Zadar, Croatia. As the primary public healthcare institution for the North Dalmatia region, the hospital complex includes a dedicated polyclinic building housing outpatient specialist services across dentistry, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, and numerous other medical disciplines. The polyclinic operates under Croatia's national health insurance system (HZZO) and serves insured residents across the greater Zadar County area.

Why Choose the Polyclinic at Opća bolnica Zadar

The polyclinic's principal advantages are its integration within Croatia's public healthcare network and its role as the region's referral hub for specialist outpatient care. Patients holding valid HZZO insurance can access a broad range of specialist consultations, including dental services, without the full out-of-pocket costs associated with private clinics. The facility is supported by Croatia's publicly funded hospital infrastructure, ensuring continuity with inpatient departments when follow-up or escalation of care is required. For residents of Zadar and the surrounding islands and municipalities, the polyclinic represents the primary point of access for insured specialist dental consultations, emergency dental extractions, and basic preventive care.

Dental and Oral Health Services

The dental services provided through the Opća bolnica Zadar polyclinic are structured around the coverage parameters of the HZZO national insurance scheme. Core covered services include emergency tooth extractionsbasic restorative dentistry (composite and amalgam fillings under qualifying conditions), preventive dental care including scaling and hygiene for eligible patient groups, and oral surgery for cases requiring hospital-level facilities. Patients requiring procedures outside HZZO coverage, including dental implantsceramic crownsporcelain veneersteeth whitening, or full-arch prosthetic rehabilitation, are directed to private dental providers, as these treatments fall outside the scope of public funding.

Clinical Team and Credentials

The polyclinic's dental department is staffed by licensed dental practitioners holding degrees from Croatian and regional dental faculties, practising under the standards of the Croatian Dental Chamber (Hrvatska komora dentalne medicine). Specialist referrals within the hospital system are managed through structured GP and specialist pathways in accordance with HZZO protocols. The broader polyclinic medical team encompasses specialists across internal medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonology, dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and gynaecology.

Facilities and Infrastructure

The polyclinic operates from a purpose-built facility connected to the main Opća bolnica Zadar hospital building in central Zadar. The building provides direct access to hospital diagnostic services including laboratory, radiology, and imaging departments. The dental outpatient unit is equipped for standard restorative and surgical dental procedures within the public system scope.

Patient Services and Languages

The polyclinic serves Croatian-speaking insured patients as its primary population. Given Zadar's historical and geographic ties to Italy and its role as a significant tourist destination, some clinical staff have working proficiency in Italian and English, though services are delivered primarily in Croatian. International patients without HZZO coverage are typically advised to seek treatment at private dental clinics in Zadar, which are specifically equipped for dental tourism coordination, multilingual communication, and international payment processing.

Location and Access

Opća bolnica Zadar Polyclinic is located at Bože Peričića 5, 23000 Zadar, Croatia, in the city centre close to the historic old town and the main public transport corridors. The facility is accessible by city bus lines and has parking available near the entrance. Zadar Airport (ZAD) is approximately 8 km from the hospital, with regular bus and taxi connections. The polyclinic operates Monday to Friday during standard administrative hours, with emergency services available through the hospital's 24-hour emergency department.

A modernly equipped facility connected to the Zadar Clinical Hospital Center. Excellent location and great help to the Zadar Hospital. It is a modernly equipped Center with a very well-equipped facility in the very center of Zadar. Praiseworthy. Because the old part of the hospital is connected to the newly built one and with all the accompanying facilities that a modern hospital offers, it fits perfectly into the environment in the very center of Zadar.

I had a dermatology appointment in just 20 days, and today I got a notification that it has been rescheduled to February 2027, almost a year later! It’s ridiculous. Clearly, patients are being forced to go private.

No reasonable person disputes that there is congestion, nor that the healthcare system is poorly organized. But that is precisely why it is completely wrong to romanticize such behavior of staff and hand out “awards for life’s work” to people who have clearly stopped behaving humanely. The problem is not with patients, children or the “structure of people”, but with a system that is cold, bureaucratic and inhumane, and then this coldness is transferred to communication with patients. When an elderly person is shouted at because they do not know how to use the order machine, it has nothing to do with congestion but with a lack of basic culture and professionalism. People do not come to the clinic on a whim or to bother someone — they come because they have to. In such an environment, expecting a minimum of patience and respect is not a luxury but the basis of the job. If someone cannot maintain a calm tone and explain a simple matter, then the problem is not order but the attitude towards people.

I see that many people here complain about the staff, but considering the structure of the patients, I would give them a lifetime achievement award. This morning, the blood collection department was crowded, 200 people in the waiting room, lots of children, and people were waiting in line, without numbers, despite the employee's repeated warnings that there was a ticket machine and that they should take a number. Suggestion: separate the children into a separate waiting room with a separate ticket machine, because if they didn't come in sick, they must have left this crowded waiting room sick.

I have no complaints about the doctors, but the phone only rings. No one ever, ever answers the phone. I've been calling for days.

We were very satisfied. My wife had severe eye pain, and we were worried that the transplanted dura mater would be rejected. We were treated very kindly! The system at the eye clinic is the same as here in Germany. First, there are some preliminary examinations, and then the doctor examines everything. The staff was very, very friendly and went out of their way to ensure we understood everything. Using English, drawings, and gestures, we managed to understand everything and felt very well cared for. I would go back anytime! Many thanks to all the staff for their excellent work!

SHAME on an institution where sick people and children come, that the air conditioners are set to such low temperatures in the middle of the summer heat!! People mostly come with elevated body temperatures, sick and in pain. Waiting in the waiting room at this (freezing) temperature is terrible, unacceptable!! Even if you come healthy, you will very easily get sick here. Shame and nothing more!

As for the clinic itself, I have nothing to say, neither positive nor negative. The only thing I have to warn you is, if you ever like Dr. Predovan for physical therapy, run away as fast as you can! With my diagnosis, where it says nicely on the neurosurgeon's report "physical therapy and spinal decompression", he only gave me physicals under the pretext that you are 29 years old, that will be resolved on its own. I enter the office, first he looks me up from head to toe with the comment "and why are you so young that you came". He barely gives me physical therapy. Control after 2 weeks, extension of therapy for another 2 weeks, NO NEED FOR CONTROL OF MRI AND NEUROSURGERY, which beautifully says in the report with Ribs, control after physicals. According to him, there is no need. Magnetic was done yesterday (2.7.), condition unchanged. Even worse. The doctor is so rude, 0 sympathy and compassion, I feel as if it is forced there. *the reason for the physical therapy and condition is a traffic accident*

All praise to my doctor Bilić and all the nurses at the Oncology Day Hospital. Caring and full of warmth, and that's exactly what oncology patients need. Praise to Dr. Župan, a young surgeon, a good person, professional and conscientious!!!
